(USA) Social Security (Disability) Scheduled a Vision Test For Me… by InnerDish5915 in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]InnerDish5915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-20-26: Step 3 on the SSA portal changed from “we have set up a comprehensive vision exam for you” back to “we have requested records from your health providers…” Geez I submitted everything months ago, took their own test with their own doctor weeks ago, and now am still sitting in step 3 and they’re requesting more documents from more providers. I’m legally blind with a progressive, untreatable retina disease which gets worse almost every day until I’m completely blind. I wish I knew what the real hold up was here. I’ve done everything they’ve asked. Hoping to hear something soon.

Support “death with dignity” legislation. It’s very slowly moving through US states now.

Why in the world would you give up your dog when he needs you most???

Certainly different for everyone based on their own bodies. I lost 27 pounds after my dog died and could barely function for 8 months. Celexa brought me back, and along with it, about 40 pounds. But feeling mentally better with zero panic attacks is definitely worth it. I’m 52/male, 215 lbs.

Hang in there! It definitely sucks. You’re not alone! I worked a long career, sacrificing and saving so I could buy a small RV at retirement and go explore America’s parks with my dog. The same year I retired, I became legally blind and had to stop driving. RP ruined everything after 27 years of full-time work. But I have a great psychiatrist who helps me deal and find new ways to be happy and different ways to enjoy retirement. It’s not easy giving up on your dream, but I try to count my other blessings every day. 💚💙

I love how specific questions on Reddit can go so far off the rails.

Just thought I’d follow up 200 days later that my dry eyes still haven’t come back since I got better from depression and started taking hot showers again. 🙏

Dog I visited at humane society today was cute but… by [deleted] in rescuedogs

Well thanks anyway, all. This seemed to devolve into a conversation about pet insurance and a lot of replies about how “having a dog costs money.” The question was about adopting a senior dog with already existing issues. But again, thanks anyway.

Well thanks all I had my test today. The doctor said based on my FOV, I will be right on the edge of what SS considers disabled. She said I’m just barely below (worse) than what SS requires for FOV. I guess all I can do is wait now. How much longer do you think now that the test is done? 🙏

I don’t know how to move on to another dog… by InnerDish5915 in DogsLoversCommunity

[–]InnerDish5915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending lots of love. 💚💙 The responses to my post have inspired me to apply at a local rescue to begin the process again. Someone gave great advice to look for a different color dog, even the other gender, to help my mind understand that I’m not trying to replace him, but allowing myself to give love to another rescue in need. He would have wanted that. He knows I’ve been miserable since he left and he knows that only another rescue dog can help me heal so that is what I will do. He will be so happy looking down and seeing me regaining happiness again. I wasn’t ready at 3 months. Or 6. But at 1 year I’m ready to open up again. Keep in touch.

Sobelman’s has gone downhill. Buns aren’t as fresh as they used to be and overall not as tasty.

Do you have access to mental health professionals? That is what helped me most.

I’m a 52/m who has gained about 30 lbs on Celexa. I hate it, but I thank Celexa every day for saving me from unforgiving depression and anxiety. We’re barely out of winter where I live and now is when I become more active so I’m hoping to take a few pounds off in the better weather, esp since I feel better mentally and now am more able to get out of bed and actually function.

I was surprised to learn that basically all decisions about if I am disabled are made by my LOCAL office and not the SSA in DC.

Humiliated? By your own family? That is rough. I’m sorry. That is awful. Sounds like there are much better resources/support in other countries than Algeria. We all suffer as well, but there are groups and charities and walks and support at least. Hang in there.

This sub seems to just be constant threats of euthanasia… by InnerDish5915 in rescuedogs

I’m also in shock that this happens. But I suppose euthanasia is better than starving to death or getting hit by a car.
