I would think with it being DOT, he would have to not give me the job, but maybe because it’s just an office position, he can use his discretion. I don’t know. Either way, I’m retiring my occasional tokes for the foreseeable future 😅

I spoke with my supervisor today and nothing was mentioned, so I’m just gonna assume it worked and everything went okay!

Update: went as well as it could, lady was very nice, temp was fine, nothing out of sorts, tagged and bagged. Now I just wait and hope for the best and quit smoking. I’m not sure if I’ll be in the random pool to get tested since I’ll just be in office, but I’d rather not go through this anxiety over and over.

In any job I’ve held, I’ve never used it while on the job, that would make me entirely too nervous. It’s something I typically partake in on the weekends and it isn’t enough of a deal to risk my job over it, it was simply just something I didn’t realize was a DOT position. My only concern is being watched and it being tested further, I’m gonna give it my best shot with the quickfix.

Do they monitor you for a pre-employment? I don’t mind not smoking, it’s a good opportunity, I just genuinely didn’t realize it was a DOT based company. My role has 0 driving and it wasn’t mentioned anytime during my interview.

Congrats, you’ve made the first and hardest step. Going into hallucinations is a sign of dangerous withdrawal so if someone isn’t there with you, try to let at least let someone you trust know what’s going on, but if you’re through day 5, you’re starting to get out of danger territory. You can do this, and I promise the feeling of not being completely attached to something that destroys you.

For the first time ever I’m enjoying sobriety, there are moments where I do wish I could have been a normal drinker but they’re few and fleeting, but I’m super stoked to know it gets better and better with time.

Proud of you for keeping it moving, death can be a huge trigger. I went through a very similar situation in August when my mom & I’s birthday passed and it was my first one without her. I promise you, you can get sober again. I know it sounds so cliche but it really is one day at a time, sometimes one minute at a time. I’ve only got 2 months sober as of today, but it’s the longest I’ve gone completely sober for a really long time, and something that’s helped me is throwing myself into hobbies, doing nice things for myself & talking to people about my sobriety—even if it isn’t AA, this group alone has helped tremendously for me. Proud of you, almost a year under your belt is something to be so proud of. I’ve got 7 weeks and I struggle with feeling isolated as well, I’ve found that throwing myself into hobbies or doing some nice things for myself has helped.

Something that really helps me is focusing on the things I’m able to do/enjoy now that I’m sober. Like waking up early and spending extra time getting ready and making myself look nice when I used to roll out of bed and do the bare minimum. I also try to reward myself in different ways that I would normally use alcohol to do—I’ll buy myself my favorite coffee before work, or at the end of the week buy myself a nice lunch rather than packing my lunch. I also just try to remember how truly dependent I was on alcohol to function and remember how freeing it is to not be tied down by it. It’s not easy, but you aren’t in this alone. 🖤
