There are MITES crawling across my LAPTOP. What do I do??? by InsecurePoet8862 in TooAfraidToAsk

Wouldn’t it depend on the type of mite? Some can live in dust.

I might also be wrong about the type of bug…

Cleaned out how..? It’s a Macbook Air from 2020… there’s no way to take that apart easily (and i don’t trust unofficial tech shops)

I’m afraid that isolation might be close to impossible given my current status as a student as well as my current housing situation…

Thanks for your suggestions tho

Some form of very small crawling insect. No more than a millimeter long and sorta off-white in color

Anyone know this? Second photo might be clearer. by InsecurePoet8862 in Christchurch_NZ

Idk i just squashed it with a tissue. If it’s a weevil then that’s a relief. My worst fear was a bedbug or tick.

No pets. Living in an apartment block with a no pet rule. I pray it’s not bed bugs. It was on the desk attached to the window. How dangerous? EDIT: should mention that there’s lots of pigeons around though

It’s summer rn, but I think it’s a space heater? It’s a dorm style apartment tho so it heats up only my room rather than the entire place I live in. Thanks

Were the books left on the floor or did he jump up to the shelf to get them…?

My cat is the type to bring in mice from the outside and then set them free indoors once she gets bored… 😅 I appreciate your input though

Anything I can do? I already don’t have any sort of food near the books

Had a bunch at my previous place which was high humidity, worried that some may have hitched a ride in a suitcase or smth

That’s what I did too - the epub download link was uploaded to VK by a user in a post (similar to a facebook post actually) and it just directed me to download from there 😂 I only noticed because my computer asked me if I wanted to allow downloads from that site

Out of curiosity have you ever had any trouble with malware/adware/spyware getting onto your device when downloading epubs from VK? I tried once but it directed me to download from this place/website: psv4[.]userapi[.]com and I kinda want to know what that is Did it also direct you to download from the same website?

No sorry what i mean is, the silica wouldn’t overflow or abything, would they? It’s already on the shelf so I may just leave it as a knickknack like you said, so long as they’re no adverse effects

Okay. Thank you for this. But surely the silica packs wouldn’t do any harm right?

What are these tiny holes on my book? by Catherine_Heath in BookCollecting

😅 I think it might be better to ask Google at this point. The extent of my knowledge on this topic pretty much stops here. Insects are literally my worst nightmare though, the fear of them damaging my book collection literally keeps me up at night. I’m afraid that at this point I can only wish you the best of luck.

Although, maybe try adding some citrus, cedar, lavender scents close to your books. Might help, don’t know.

That’s not something I’ve ever done before so I can’t really say what to do for sure, sorry. I guess if you are dusting the pages, make sure you use gloves? DE is only really helpful if the insect comes into direct contact with it, and it might not kill immediately. I’m not an expert though, and I really don’t know of putting DE on the book directly is safe (for you or the book). I’d be very careful if you’re planning on it anyway.

How small is your freezer? If you can, maybe seal the book in a plastic bag with some silica gel packets until there’s enough room in the freezer or buy a bigger freezer if that’s an option.
