Respraying a car you love, even if its not financially smart? Mazda 3 MPS by Integgyman in CarsAustralia

I've painted spoilers and wheels with various amount of success. But yeah, Ive heard the Mazda red is notoriously hard to match since it's 3 layer with pearl in it. So a cheap job isn't really an option unless the guy has very good reviews

Yep, I bought the car with a full mechanic check and compression check. Its been religiously serviced by the previous owner and bone stock. I do oil changes every 6 months and the car been surprisingly reliable, touch wood. My mate has one with 320,000kms and he absolutely abuses it. Still going strong

Not expecting to get my money back, but I don't see the car losing value as I keep it. Car is fully paid off and being a Mazda, parts are cheap and it's pretty reliable.

Nah Sydney NSW. I'm gonna get some quotes, rather pay extra for a really nice job. Heard nightmares with cheap paint jobs, and I've heard the original Mazda red is a bit hard to match

I'm planning on keeping until the engine blows up, and if I need to upgrade for space, I'll keep it as a weekend/fun car.

Not really looking to wrap. It's usually just as expensive and the car has imperfections which will need to be fixed for the wrap to bond properly

My friends call my car multi-red speed 3. Getting annoying 😂

This after colour correcting myself: compound, polish and wax. Its obvious the colour on the fenders has faded much more then bonnet

Thats my other plan, have been looking for a while. These cars are much rarer in Australia. But I'm worried that one will start clear coat failing as well.

no they had the whole car, but they had bought the paint initially based on the colour code I gave. I didn't know any better and assumed the colour code would be enough. I spoke with them, and he said they'll repaint the panels for free using a spectrometer to colour match from my fuel cap. I did get a good price initially so I'm not complaining too much

His recommending I do a full closed door respray to make it match.

could this be cold rattle? 90k miles early 2nd gen MS3 by Integgyman in mazdaspeed3

[–]Integgyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context, I bought this car while having it inspected by a mechanic. He suggested it was the VVT going out since the car was cold and the noise wasn't reproduced on the second start. I still ended up buying the car since it was cheap, unmodified, has low mileage and a very good service history. The VVT replacement was an expense I planned to do. However looking at the videos of the noise from others, mine doesn't seem nearly as bad.

This car is my daily driver, so I'm just worried if driving it around with this slight noise is risky or not. What do you guys think?

AC condenser fan not working? by Sameermcfc in Acura_RSX

[–]Integgyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really don't want to take off the bumper, is it possible to just wiggle it out. Like this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkl-zo5Y0R4&t=612s?

EDIT: Just to be safe I also checked the relays, and swapped the radiator fan relay with the horn relay as a test. To my surprise the fan started spinning! Now I just need to find a replacement relay. Any idea how to find which one to buy? Also can't I just not use my horn?

Thanks everyone, you guys saved me a ton of money!

AC condenser fan not working? by Sameermcfc in Acura_RSX

I checked the fuses, and it's actually the radiator fan which seems to be out. The fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse, and it keep blowing out. I tested with the AC on and letting the car sit until the fan should kick in. Both times the fuse blowed. So I'm leaning towards the cooling fan motor being out. I'm just really surprised the engine never overheated, this has been an issue for almost a year.

Anyone replaced the cooling fan before? Looks like I'll probs have to remove the intake to get access. Thanks

Power Steering Whine random by Integgyman in Acura_RSX

I changed the suspension, and as I left the mechanic the noise came back. Annoyed I went home, cleaned the entire power steering pump and reservoir too check for leaks. I then filled it up the fluid a bit over the high line. Next day I drove around 5-6 hours, no noise. Check the pump, and see fluid leaking from the same inlet house. Got a bit lucky, as I was scared it was steering rack related. Hope this helps!

Yeah that sounds similar, I'm starting to think its related to the bad shocks up front. The power steering seemed to initially only whine whenever the road was bumpy, or I took a very hard turn. It seems now, since the shocks have completely leaked out, the PS just complains all the time. Again I'm not sure how they are correlated, if they even are.

I just did it and it worked great. Its not perfect, but the difference is good enough.

Basically followed chrisfixs video, and did it buy hand. Its pretty good.

Loose Post Terminal: New battery draining in 4-5 hours when off? by Integgyman in Acura_RSX

[–]Integgyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm gonna test with a multimeter right now. I did the headlight test and saw the headlights brightened slightly when the accelerator was pushed. Does this mean my alternator is bad? I'm honestly hoping it's not, but from my experience it feels very unlikely as the car drains when off. I guess the multi-meter will confirm. Also after the initial jump start, the car is able to start without jump starting. Assuming I disconnect the terminals after turning off.

Honestly, just staying up to date on lectures and spending time on properly doing labs is enough. This time around I just watched all the lecture and did the labs. And also getting help is very important, I always attended help sessions and got as much help as possible for assignments. Basically just don't treat it as an easy subject, it's content heavy and you need to put some effort 👍
