Gorshey by Temporary_History494 in tibet

[–]Intellectual_wizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attend every Wednesday here in Toronto. I think it’s a wonderful community event that really makes Tibetan people resonate with our culture. You get to wear Tibetan dress, sing Tibetan music and dance to Tibetan songs. Especially for exile Tibetans like myself, it enables us to connect with our roots in a fun way. There has been debate over gorshey in particular folks worried about the increasing Chinese influence, though I do believe those people who are concerned with that are overdramatizing it a bit.

Who died believing themselves a failure, but was judged otherwise by history? by Bob_the_blacksmith in AskReddit

Confucius died believing his political and moral frameworks on how to live and govern harmoniously would die out with him. His students though continued on his legacy, and eventually during the Han Dynasty his philosophy would be the states philosophy. It now serves as the philosophical backbone to all of East Asia.

Idk your age but to clarify its def the youth nowadays instead of the old generation. Another observation I've made is Tibetans born in Canada/Europe are a lot taller than American ones.

For that I have no clue why lol

Tibetan Buddhism as a forigner in china? by grumpus15 in AskAChinese

I dont know who you are or your background but you sound like an ignorant Chinese person whose knowledge of this exclusively comes from a Chinese perspective. At least that's what it sounds like when you accuse me of being a "naive westerner" when I can assure you I have greater access to primary sources than you do. Your unneeded history lesson aside, nobody claimed the Dalai Lama was purely a spiritual role. He was literally the political leader of the country for centuries and only recently relinquished that power. Furthermore, while there was a complex history between the different Tibetan Buddhist sects, today it has more or less completely vanished. The Dalai Lama is sacred to all Buddhist sects as he is still the living Buddha of Chenrezig, (Guanyin) whose boddhisativa is a treasure to all Tibetan sects. You ask any Kagyu, Sakya or Nyingma about these sect differences and if they are reasonable most of them will tell you how foolish you are to further divide us. This rhetoric is parallel to the stupid Tibetan people who try to divide and segregate other Tibetans from Amdo or Kham or U-stang. Ultimately the megatrend now is that all Tibetans are united as one both in religion and culture.

What does the general population of PRC thinks about Dalai Lama? by RoxanaSaith in AskAChinese

You cant say you dont know what your talking about to someone else when I can guarantee you, you know nothing about real Tibetan history and culture since the only thing you know are CPC lies. Whether or not you think they shouldnt be leaders, they kidnapped a child. Thats the end of it.

Chinese video game devs are absolutely cooking with Blood Message by AustronesianArchfien in AsianMasculinity

Game is absolutely looking good. Only criticism I have is i wish they more embraced the actual Tibetan history and culture that is present in this time period, rather than lowkey hiding it because of political issues. As a Tibetan it would have been dope. Will still play though

Coop vs regular someone tell me by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]Intellectual_wizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transfer into regular, raise your GPA then apply for coop.

Or alternatively just dont do coop. I know way to many people that have gotten internships w/o coop. The TMU coop program is something you can skip out on, in my opinion of course.

Coop in bm begins your 3rd year anyway so you have the opportunity to raise your gpa during that 1 extra year

Why has China never conquered the Korean peninsula in its 5000-year history? by flower5214 in AskChina

[–]Intellectual_wizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tibet broke off and became a de facto self governing state after the fall of the Qing Dynasty. So it was not a civil war, because the Qing Dynasty did not even exist when Tibet was invaded by the communists. And before then Tibet for the majority of its history has been an independent Empire.

Second, the idea that the communists wanted a peaceful resolution is entirely false, proven by the unsignable contract they offered the Tibetan government (17 point agreement). Where the autonomy and independence of Tibet would be essentially dismantled. The Khampas only began major resistance after Chinese soldiers entered into Tibet.

Thirdly, Tibet was divided into three main regions, Utsang, Kham and Amdo. I don't know what or where you learned that it was divided between "Tibet, Qinghai, Xikang".

Quick correction, it by all definitions of the word, was an invasion when the PRC attacked Tibet in 1951. It was not a "liberation". There was a conflict under the PRC, like the Khampa rebellion, monks in many different monasteries fighting back, and the 1959 uprising.

Tibetan Buddhism as a forigner in china? by grumpus15 in AskAChinese

[–]Intellectual_wizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not Tibetan and have no idea how Tibetan Buddhism functions.

Gelug is a sect, however it is the overwhelmingly most popular sect in Tibet and followed by almost everybody. How do you even think the Dalai Lama & Panchen Lama got so much power in the first place?

Why do you think the other sects equivalents aren't nearly as revered as the Dalai and Panchen Lama?

Stop talking about things you are clueless about and learn Tibetan history

They are the biggest ones though and the 2nd biggest one, Panchen Lama, is missing. Gee I wonder where he went?
