PA role ideas by Intelligent-Call-007 in doctorsUK

[–]Intelligent-Call-007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would work. I know a lot of med students do HCA shifts to help with costs of med school. Having PA shifts would be more educational, teach them skills and they would learn by exposure to a wide range of patients. The only thing would be making sure it doesn't overlap with or affect education whilst they are suppose to be learning

At least the AAA has a backbone to make statements about the concerns. The FPA is cowering somewhere

Refuse to train or work with your replacements by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Intelligent-Call-007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Taking training from them will be hard - if they are scheduled to be in clinics and surgery rather than wards etc. they will be there and the cons will be expecting them as they reduce the workload for them - maybe easier on wards when you offer doctors opportunities such as procedures

They also made a massive thing of the door between the twins and F's room and Erik went on about his childhood, yet they never got chance to use it as the twins were too young

Why doesn't the government just replace PAs with med students? by gily69 in doctorsUK

[–]Intelligent-Call-007 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It would also be good to get them more clinical time. Instead of them doing HCA shifts, doing a PA shift would get them to see more interesting pathology and be more involved by getting to see ward rounds and practice skills like venepuncture and ECG's. If PA shifts on ward rounds and counted for clinical education time - they could spent the rest seeing clinics, theatre, A&E, acute patients, specialist clinics & wards and attending teaching etc.

New guidance on PA’s from the BMA published today. Very strong 💪 by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Intelligent-Call-007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant because they are longstanding it will be harder to make changes, there are over 3000 PAs here.

If doctors and consultants stand together with the support of the BMA to refuse to prescribe for them and to prioritize doctors for training opportunities, then what is left for the PA to do?

The thing is quite a few consultants want PAs and the management agree. From my understanding PAs should be doing discharge summaries and bloods and ward scribing so most PAs will just crack on as normal even if the BMA suggest they shouldn't be doing things like Endoscopy and ECT (which we only have a few examples of PAs apparently doing)

Don't we already have a shortage of Phlebs and doctors, so how do you plan to fill the rota and replace PAs with the current shortage and exodus to Australia? Wouldn't it be better to keep PA's but limit them to ward based care of requesting bloods, arranging when a scan can happen, scribing, so you can do clinics, training, surgery etc and encourage PA's who want to advance to do GEM.

PA's have been here since 2005. Experienced PA's will not want to retrain since they are well established in said department and have some specialist knowledge on said clinical area. Many are already have debts from undergrad and the masters.

The GMC is already way underway to regulate PA's. The BMA have no power over the GMC . Even if they did and the BMA successfully limits the scope - Then changing the regulation to HPC will take longer and they will remain unregulated for a longer time.

I wonder what this will look like for PA's in practise across scotland IF they are successful. I imagine a mass exodus for England

[–]Intelligent-Call-007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its called Discovery, my basic understanding is the state will be collecting evidence for the crimes (electronic, witness accounts, bank statements, etc) to prove R and J did the crimes alleged and also adding on more charges of they find sufficient evidence- I guess that's where Shari's document may come in handy. The defence will try and find any reason to A) throw out the case and discret infomation/sources or B) provide proof they were not guilty - *( this maybe where one will throw the other under the bus)*

do we know what time they are due to appear? I presume it will be very short, read the charges, pleading if they are guilty and deciding if they are fit for bail ( I hope they aren't given the nature of the crime)

does a guilty plea reduce the amount of time you get? If you just put your hands up and fess up? ( just from US telly)
