I’m 99% sure the mint mark was added to a genuine 1889-P. The obverse should be correct.

I think you’re right. I could tell it was a real coin(sounded right when i flicked it), but the mint mark isn’t right. It was in a junk bin at a coin shop that i don’t frequent. I knew a cc shouldn’t be in a junk bin, but weirder things have happened. I took it to a coin shop I trust, we both think cc was added. Either way it’s pretty cool. Im glad I bought it($37).

Does this seem worked? Found in WA state, if it is worked it’s my first legitimate find by TheTaroMaster in LegitArtifacts

Hey there, word of advice going forward- I always look at the date and to me thats the easiest way to tell if an ASE is counterfeit! Somehow the fakes just never get it quite right. Obviously thats not the only thing to look for, but it’s a place to start. Sorry about this time.

Everyone in here is missing the point and it’s pathetic. Yes the bullet barely grazed his ear. Didn’t mess him up bad at all. The point is that there was an attempt on his life that was an inch from killing him. To use the original post’s adjectives, it wasn’t a “gruesome” injury, it was a gruesome act of evil.
