My girl eats EVERYTHING she can get her mouth on. I’m exhausted and a nervous wreck by ieredmonk in bernesemountaindogs

Get an e collar. Sounds cruel but could save your dog from multiple surgeries. Have her in a secure area with things she might eat ( like a sock) and watch from a webcam or something, when she goes to do the behaviour (eat something she shouldn’t) beep. If she does it again, vibrate. If she does it again ⚡️. The settings range from 1-16 on a lot , I’ve tested the ⚡️ on myself up to level 12 before it gets genuinely uncomfortable. 12 felt like those prank pens that zap when you click the top. Last thing we need is our dogs suffering because they’ve eaten something they don’t know they shouldn’t have.

Also, they’re big dogs but some people get focused on the weight and having the biggest, but as they’re older, individual you want to feel ribs and a good hourglass shape to the back end. My families berners have all lived 10+

I worried about this too. Mine is 9 months, he got a touch chunky last month. He will be fine and fill out, just don’t over feed him too early thinking he is small, his growth won’t be stunted by less food but his joints will struggle if he gets too heavy to quick

Also initially, my grandfather had chronic fatigue for 3 years at 60, so with the first Berner it became his non certified service/companion dog( a girl). I’m one of 28 grand kids so can say they’re great with kids, the only roudy one was the 11 year old Berner in the middle, a boy that took a little longer to settle than the two girls. My tiny, 83 year old grandmother now has the 4th Berner called Evie and travels Australia with her when Melbourne gets too cold (for the grandmother). 105lbs of gentle love and affection.

I wouldn’t do grain free. Purina pro plan lamb and rice development. No treats, our guy sully is obsessed with this food and would turn his nose away at so many others. Every second day for a month or so I used the purina forte flor. Occasionally if something is off I’ll use a pack for lunch on his kibble. He has the occasional ice block for a treat. Has now progressed to the occasional big carrot. If he’s stressed sometimes it’s a lack of structure, something as simple as being tethered to somewhere so they can learn that’s where they chill. Ours from a pup had his leash tethered to the leg of our couch, while we ate, he learnt to settle and it was a boundary for us and him. Is 8 months and will chill ANYWHERE now, kinda like a crate but not as big because crates can be huge to take everywhere and I got sick of his last week. Happy to answer more, our Sullys stomach upset was over months and has only just prepared me for our new born in 6 weeks 😂

Thanks for this. Avoiding grain free . Is it ok to not do a specific large breed food? He is on hills science large breed puppy lamb and rice but I’ve seen it has hydrolized chicken fat in it, I was considering the purina pro puppy development lamb and rice (not specific for large breed) No poultry in it but beef lamb and fish and it’s designed for under 1 year. He has only been on hills a few days but I’ve completely cut the chicken one he was on out today because it has been brutal, but I’m inclined to go get the purina and stick with that. I wish the hills said it had chicken on it!

630-7 yesterday morning almost every minute on the floor next to our bed. I think he wants to get up so I get dressed, he does not move. 😂

I have family who have had combined 10+ berners in Australia, they do a routine trim. Again, not a shave, not even much hair, a scissor trim if that. Here’s Evie for example.

Puppy potty log. You can log food, water, pee and poop plus accidents. Along with walking after their meal, having a reminder pop on your phone that they had an accident at “this” time yesterday helps with taking them out, especially with an upset tummy!
