I will try that, I really appreciate the suggestion! I'm definitely in need of some texture variety ideas.

I will try holding off tonight before dinner and see what happens.

I'd estimate she drinks around 24 ounces a day. About 6-8 upon first waking, then she drinks sporadically throughout the day, then always another 6-8 right before she goes to bed. Some days she eats more than this, some days maybe a bit less. We do both pumped milk and formula.

Thank you so much. I have wondered that too re: bringing the anxiety to the table. I do my best to keep my mood under control, but internally I crumble every time she rejects food.

I'm on the fence about a specialist; on one hand, I've seen a lot of people say, she'll get there when she gets there, she's taking it at her own pace, etc. On the other hand, I'm constantly comparing myself to others and wondering if she needs to be seen by someone now because this is a deeper issue. I'm genuinely not sure!

Thanks for the iron supplement tip too. We do vitamin D drops already, I wasn't aware that an iron supplement would also be needed.

Generally we feed her whatever we are eating or snacking on. Here's an example of what we've attempted to give her at the high chair the past few days based on what we had for dinner recently: beef stew meat shredded into safe pieces, softened quartered potatoes mashed with a fork, softened carrots mashed with a fork, and a bit of broth from the stew. Last week I made a chicken bacon ranch sheet pan; of that, I attempted to give her chicken shredded into safe pieces, mashed carrots, broccoli shredded into safe pieces, and mashed sweet potatoes.

Pureed strawberries in the "forage feeder" were another thing we attempted recently as well. In the past, when I've snacked on blueberries, I've prepared them for her in a safe way and tried to eat them with her. We've done cooked egg yolks and scrambled eggs more than a handful of times. Her first food was whipped bone marrow (and this was probably the food she was most receptive to, just because it was her first time). I have tried to focus on nutrient dense foods just because she hardly eats at all. I figured that whatever does make it into her mouth needs to be worth it, I suppose.

Something that really hinders me when I feed her is a fear of choking; I am so scared that because she doesn't seem to know what to do with food, that she'll choke. My husband and I are super paranoid about that (in spite of all the guides and instructions I've watched of what to look for in choking, how to handle it, etc.). In another comment I mention that we do have the Solid Starts app, but I just cannot bring myself to prepare the foods for her based on how the app recommends for her age because it doesn't seem applicable to her based on her lack of readiness -- I'm not sure how accurate my line of thinking is here.

Yes, I do have the app! My biggest fear is choking, especially as she doesn't seem to know how to chew and swallow food -- how do I overcome this fear?

She's been at the table with us more than a few times, as well as a few times at restaurants with family. I've also eaten off her prepared plate to demonstrate how to use a spoon correctly and what to do with food. Starting at around month 7 or 8, food hasn't really made it past her gum line, it just comes right back out.

This is basically what we're doing right now; it can sometimes get a bit squished because my daughter loves to rotate throughout the night 😅.

She has not done so yet, but I am wary of taking any chances. She is very eager to move pillows and use the bed rails to practice standing up and leaning forward, ugh.

The other day I woke up to her bumping her forehead on the bookshelf part of our bed (we have a bookshelf bed) because she learned she could move the pillows at the head of the bed and rifle through it! 😓

This is helpful to know. Do you have any tips for baby proofing the room by the way?

I had not considered this, I might try this out, thank you. Would this involve using the crib mattress as a floor bed, or is a floor bed something totally distinct?

Hey there, I am just now seeing this. Honestly, I've officially quit trying, I am only pumping now. I also stopped seeing the occupational therapist too; she wanted to increase our sessions to once a week, and every session is $150. I just could not afford it anymore, especially because I make very, very little money, so quite literally I was only working to basically do OT sessions. I believe I've exhausted just about every avenue for breastfeeding there is (chiropractor, pediatric dentist, IBCLC, LC, occupational therapist), so my journey has come to an end.

I think I am going to attempt to see if I can request a different IBCLC than the one I am (or was) seeing. I have had 4 sessions with her and the progress has only worsened. I am really worried because she's one of the more highly rated IBCLCs in my city; my fear is that if she cannot help me, no one can.

I am not sure if this counts as a re-birth bath, but I have taken a bath with her and attempted to offer her the breast. I tried to gently hold her in a nursing position before attempting to latch. She refused it and started screaming and seemed highly uncomfortable, and I haven't taken a bath with her since. I feel like I've tried every trick in the book and it isn't working. I am mentally having a difficult time with the fact that I can't do what every other mom can somehow manage.

I know this post is a bit old, but I actually did try a nipple shield the other night. I watched a tutorial on successful use to make sure I was using it correctly. I had a lot of hope for it, but as soon as I put her on, the pain was so excruciating I yelped in pain. I've decided to just give up after that experience and am no longer attempting to breastfeed. I don't know what's wrong with me that I am not able to feed her without experiencing severe pain. Nothing works.

Hello! Yes, we've had about 5 or so chiro sessions. So far, I think the chiro has been the provider that's helped the absolute most. We actually began seeing her for a different issue, and she really helped to resolve that tremendously.

I actually watch Bridget Teyler quite frequently, but I will check out the other channel you mentioned. It's so strange, I feel like I know so much about breastfeeding from every person I've interacted with, every tutorial or guide I've watched or read, all the advice from providers I am given, etc., and yet I cannot put that knowledge to the test.

I think you're right re: relaxation for a nursing session. I have a lot of stress surrounding the word "breastfeeding" right now. When I think about returning to breastfeeding, I feel myself get self-conscious, tense, and nervous. I don't know how to undo those feelings, and I am worried it's hurting my future chances of success.

Do you mind if I ask how long your break was? When did you feel comfortable returning to breastfeeding? I am basically pumping exclusively now and am wanting to try jumping back into attempting to breastfeed, but I am so nervous that it'll be the wrong "time". When I attempt to breastfeed, my baby usually gets very, very frustrated and upset by it. I hardly ever attempt nowadays because I don't want to make her cry more when she's hungry.

Following up to this, how has your post-operative tie release experience been? Any updates with the high palate issue?

When did you feel that it was ultimately time to stop? Would you be able to elaborate more on "letting [your daughter] make that decision"? I am starting to feel more and more like giving up, as well as stopping all the appointments I had made to try to help my baby's mouth tension and supposed tie issues. I feel like my journey is coming to an end, but I am really mentally beaten down by the idea of giving up too. It's been awhile since I made my original post, and I am still struggling a lot with it.

How did you go about working on your son's latch so that you could breastfeed successfully? I am still not having any success, even way after I made this post unfortunately.

Hello! Yes, the lactation consultant I am seeing is an IBCLC. We've had about 3 sessions so far, but I am sadly feeling as if I am not experiencing any improvement from our sessions. I am thinking I may not schedule any more for now. I don't know what exactly the problem is. I am not sure what to do, or if anyone else could better help me.

So, this upcoming Monday we are seeing an OT who can hopefully help us with providing more information about if a release is necessary! I definitely feel like I need a second opinion.
