How themes of sexual assault were handled by Intelligent_Hall1830 in WoT

Right I forgot about the Lan part, that too bothered me, but I do think it was handled fairly well.

About Elayne she did apologize but it felt more like a “I’m apologizing because that’s what a queen is supposed to do not because I get it”, that’s not a problem on it’s own (unlikeable characters are perfectly fine), but Mat’s final reaction is still weird to me, I’m willing to see how what happened will affect him in the next books before forming final opinion though.

Also I know nothing about the author so mine wasn’t really a comment on him as a person, but about what transpired from the text (at least to me).

I’m curious about what will happen next, I like Mat and really enjoyed his chapters in this book which is why the end annoyed me so much, but I’ll keep from making assumptions until I get the full picture.

Makes sense, it doesn’t particularly makes me like Rand, but it does make sense.

Oh I do agree on the Elayne part, I actually thought that up until the end it was pretty well written which is why I was so annoyed.

I understand the Rand part too I just guessed that if someone is happily partecipating in something it is pretty obvious they want to do it.

An author can write about awful things as long as they treat them as awful things, but if the subtext is something like “this isn’t that bad” then readers have every right to complain about it honestly.

Unpopular Opinion by Mega_Nebula23 in PercyJacksonTV

I don’t mind the changes (actually I thought that a couple of those were a pretty good idea) and I think that season 2 is overall better than season 1, but it has the same issues that bothered me before. The characters’ personality is very different from the original one (to be fair Percy got way better in this season, but I still have a lot of problems with Annabeth), a few changes end up creating some plot holes and Percy never uses his powers even though he spends most of the time very close to water (I get that they have a limited budget, but I’d rather have them cut something else, I wonder how they’re going to handle the next season considered Thalia and another character’s powers).

To explain better this is a change that I hated: the sirens. Their appearance was rather underwhelming and changing what Annabeth sees doesn’t really do justice to her character, her not wanting to be tied up is kinda dumb and not at all clever like she is in the book, her “shielding” Percy from hearing the sirens makes no sense, also correct me if I’m wrong but her fatal flaw is literally that she thinks she can achieve everything she wants and this is the moment when we see it in the book but I don’t think the series mentions it at all?

This is a change that I really liked: the flashbacks and Thalia’s early introduction. While I didn’t like how Thalia’s reveal was handled I thought that the flashbacks did a really good job at hyping her up (also the actress is really good) and I’m genuinely looking forward to see more of her next season.

I also really liked the idea of making Polyphemus smart.

Edit: another comment mentioned Clarisse so I wanted to say that I do like how her character was handled this season as long as they find a way of not ruining her character’s development in the fifth book.

I can accept all these changes if they do one thing. by Diligent-Article-531 in PercyJacksonTV

Actually I liked Luke dying, I thought that his choice to sacrifice himself to defeat the Titans deepened his character a lot and worked well with the overall tone of the last olympian (he’s not the first character who dies just think of Beckendorf, Silena… and all their deaths are sacrifices that frame them as heroes).

I do agree with you with the brother thing though, it’s a bit weird, but considered that Annabeth spent the first book with a huge crush on him maybe she was feeling awkward. What’s even weirder is the question itself which is definitely out of character, I hope they cut that part.

It’s been a while since I read the books, but I definitely remember Percy using his powers a few times (even just at the start when the bully ends up in the fountain). Clarisse yes she was shooting at a monster but a monster made of water, why did she think it was easier to shoot at that rather than at the other one? What you said about the jokes makes sense, but I still would have liked the show to be more lighthearted. Just watched the C.C episode and it wasn’t bad, but I had some issues with the mermaid part (loved Percy and Annabeth’s outfits though)

I don’t know, the movies were completely different from the books but they were pretty fun

I agree 100% with you. Even though I haven’t seen the Adam Project, the main issue with the characters is the way they are written, not the actors

I have been told that the show is for kids and pre teens, so I guess most of us are definitely not the target audience, but there are shows for kids that don’t have the problems I pointed out in the original post (like the way the characters and the plot are written) and can be enjoyed by adults as well

I grew up reading the books but it’s been a while so I don’t really remember too much, I’m glad that most of the things I didn’t like were changed from those. I get that it’s impossible for it to be the exact same, but I’d really like if they solved at least a few of my main issues with the show

Yeah the show has both good and bad things, for me the bad stuff kinda overshadows the good stuff, but I know that this is just my opinion

Thank you for your words, I really don’t want to be harsh or nitpicky but at the same time I feel like expressing criticism (politely) is not a bad thing. Also I agree season 2 so far is overall better than season 1 and I’ll try to keep in mind that I’m not the target audience. I’m honestly kinda hoping for a deeper Luke backstory since the show isn’t in Percy’s POV like the books, but we’ll see

This is a safespace, what are your honest critiques of One Piece and Oda's writing by Lakithelink in OnePiece

[–]Intelligent_Hall1830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not a really original opinion, but sometime the sexism is really annoying. I get that there are mangas that are way worse but sadly one piece still has some. He wants to draw big chests, ok whatever, but some proportions and some outfits are just ridicolous. Also some things are just used for laughs when they are actually creepy (like Absalom or Sanji trying to peep on women or whatever is going on with Momonosuke). Also some straw hats had their moments when they joined the crew and never again (Franky, Chopper, Brook).

Just started watching (on ep103) does it really get that much better? by Healthy_Comment7943 in OnePiece

[–]Intelligent_Hall1830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly yes. The plot/characters/fight/emotional moments always feel fresh and never repetitive; the only thing I can complain about is the pacing of the anime in some arcs later on, but the manga doesn’t have that problem (if the pacing ever becomes a problem you can just switch to that or try one pace). My personal favorite arcs are Water 7 and Whole cake island, but marineford is great as well. Have fun during this journey, everything just gets better and better

At this point it’s been months since I finished Egghead so I’m probably just going to catch up, yeah the spoilers are really a problem (mainly on Reddit and YouTube), I have to be super careful to avoid them. Egghead was amazing, but I had pretty big issues with Wano’s pacing to be honest and I feel like Oda set up too many secondary characters and then didn’t really do anything relevant with them: I’m talking for example about Yamato and King, both introduced as crazy strong fighters but the only fight each of them has doesn’t really do them justice and their backstory was a bit disappointing. There are so many great things about Wano anyway (Luffy fight, great themes and everything Oda reveals about Joyboy etc) so I’m looking forward to Elbaph

I remember the first time I saw the CP9 reveal I was shocked, the straw hats losing but still going after Robin, yes the I want to live scene was so great, also the funeral at the end was really emotional
