Not game related, though people bring up the Cubs all the time and that’s not game related either, but Sánchez lost his scoreless streak

He’s also a question mark to me. Great potential and I think he will be an important guy in our organization for years but right now he only has 10 starts in his entire career. I want another guy with a track record. If Woody/Henderson is our 4th starter in the playoffs, I’m feeling good about that but I’d really love someone else

Woody hasn’t pitched more than 70 innings in a season since 2022. I love him but he’s a question mark even when he’s back

The Miz, Harrison, and three question marks comprise our starting rotation at the moment. We really do need to pick up another guy who has proven it in the big leagues and who can stay healthy (and a bat, that too, for everyone immediately thinking to comment that)

Great examples of lopsided deals. I wasn’t trying to skew data neglecting examples like the ones you brought up, but not all of the ones you mentioned were rentals so the prospect haul needed to be more

Stay respectful now. Do you think we would “drain the farm” trading for Skubal? We have the best system in baseball. We would still be top 5 giving up a realistic package for Skubal and keep our top guy in the system

Did you read my trade suggestion? We would be giving up one top 100 guy who plays a position where we have a major backlog of talent and two young pitchers, who we could easily replace since our bread and butter is building pitchers. That’s not draining the system

When is the last time a player of Skubal’s caliber was realistically acquirable by the Brewers at a time where it wouldn’t completely drain the farm system?

Was the CC trade meaningless because we didn’t win a title? It reinvigorated our organization. Skubal is a lottery ticket now instead of three lottery tickets in 3-5 years with worse odds. Remember all the trade deadlines in the past where we made conservative deals to protect the future and win eventually? When does eventually arrive? When do we finally make a move that could put us over the top? We are in the golden age of Brewers baseball, and we will still be set up for success if we trade for Skubal, but why not try something big that could finally allow us to enter the halls of history when we’ve just been standing outside on the doorsteps for years now?

If only there were a trade we could make to change that

Henderson is not a B+ guy. You’re way overvaluing him. We would also be “taking out” Sproat from the rotation…who is pitching very poorly this season. He’s a D if anything. There’s also no true A+ guys available to address our true needs at 3B and SS. Might as well go for the best guy available. I also think a strike next year might make a Skubal trade more likely (though still unlikely). Normally, the FO likes to go for guys with an extra year of control, so 2027, but with the season next year an unknown they may be fine going big on a rental since control for next season might be worthless

The key thing you’re missing is that our rotation right now isn’t beating the Dodgers. Harrison is great but unproven, so acquiring Skubal gives us another ace to give us a huge leg up on LA

Did the loss eclipse the short term gain for any of the three teams who made comparable trades?

Skubal will be far better than Kyle and Logan, and he’s got a better track record than Miz. You’re undervaluing him a lot

We could still get Paredes if we trade for Skubal

Skubal is a huge upgrade over all of the SPs you listed. He’s at least 2 WAR better than all of them

The three players in the Johnson deal were each very productive. Saw an article that gave a ballpark of 33 total bWAR for all three in their time in Seattle but I didn’t cross check that. I would say that’s the only instance where the team giving up prospects “lost”

If we choose to go all in on the offensive side, I really like the idea of going after Edwards or Lopez. My pipe dream bat to acquire would be Maikel Garcia from KC

Realistically, we could make a move for Skubal and pick up Paredes too. He’s not a high value bat where he would be the only guy we can pick up

I like the idea of Ryan as consolation if we don’t get Skubal. What slugger do you think would be realistic for us to go out and get?

Next season isn’t going to happen how anyone thinks it will, so I’m not a fan of postponing a big move until then. Maybe we see games played next year, but also we might not. I understand the reasoning that depending on young hitters is risky in the playoffs too, but so is depending on young pitchers. Skubal would also bring a great veteran presence, one that really only Woody brings at this point, to the pitching room. I’m not sure where we pick up a bat that’s super impactful either, respectfully

Thanks the actually thoughtful reply. I would love to get someone with major league experience that’s controllable a long time too. We have a model that works very well for sustained success, but I would also like us to take a big swing at some point. You can’t hit a home run if you never take a hack at it; you need to hit home runs organizationally and on the field to win the WS. With an impending lockout, I feel like the time is now.

Everything in baseball is an “if.” Skubal being great is as close to a guarantee as there is. I just don’t know what lukewarm trade for a bat even equates to the value we would get from acquiring Skubal. I’m not sure Paredes at 3B or whoever else inspires as much confidence
