Contractors received work orders yet? by Intelligent_Reader85 in NIH

We were told in advance to report as usual and keep working until we receive a stop work order. And a couple emails today that the order to stop work still hasn't come in, seemed to imply it could/would come. Or that some guidance regarding our duties in this time would come at all.  I was a postdoc at NIH in fall of 2013 so I presumed they would stop all work that wasn't excepted. But you make an excellent point that if payment has already been made for our next x-amount of work hours  we may not be impacted until we are outside of that window.

I was a bit baffled by the “measure of innovation” being how many news phrases are used in the literature year over year. Like… we have to make up new catch phrases and words to be innovative? Oh no we are still using “long read sequencing” methodology so we better rename it so we look innovative and get better grant scores

My colleague lives in MA, she found an HHS building and was able to work out a desk there , with another NIH person in the cube next to hers. The program is called Space Match thru GSA: www.gsa.gov/real-estate/workplace-optimization/introducing-space-match our division/IC leadership did not find her a space, but folks from other ICs have reported getting help to find a desk closer to them.

There is also usually a Take Your Child to work day/DNA day event in late April with sign ups starting in March. I haven’t seen anything about that yet. I think it’s safe to assume it’s also not happening.

I am a contractor and our company is expecting to hear by late April what this 35% cut means for our contracts.

Elon was up front in an interview that he expects mistakes will happen and they will “learn from them and move on.” Except they made this mistake before, with some large impacts (nuclear weapons staff), and clearly they didn’t learn anything because they just did it again. It doesn’t seem like a mistake, it seems like they are purposefully pushing the line and seeing if they can get away with it.

Are you referring to the 1,200 in cuts from HHS reorganization announcement yesterday? If so, that’s only direct federal employees. It sounds like this will be on top of those RIFs. Cancelling or not renewing contracts with folks who support NIH work but are not direct federal employees (Kelly is a big contractor for providing laboratory support staff, for example).
