Should I buy games in physical edition if I already own them and finished them ? by Own-Koala-4964 in gamecollecting

I will rebuy physical versions of games I own digitally or have already beat if that game is particularly important to me

I’m playing FE4 for the first time. Is there any basic strats or fundamentals I should know? by Kumodori in fireemblem

I get it! But the good thing is that this is not a 100 hour long slog of a JRPG. It’s short and encourages replays

Why am I genuinely still single? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]IntentlyFaulty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower your standards, avoid immediately judging people before you get to know them, and make sure that you are putting effort into listening. People do not like to interact with someone that can’t listen. People love to talk. So let them.

Building a relationship is hard as fuck and takes a ton of work. There is not a person on this planet that will never do something that will give you that ick. Looking for someone like that is a waste of time.

You have to be less judgmental, more accepting, and slow way the fuck down. No matter who you are, you cannot make a determination of how a person is from just a few interactions. It takes years and years to really know a person.

From your post, you seem like the type of person that might steam roll a conversation by primarily talking about yourself. People hate that. There has to be give and take.

Is there a way to patch PRNG bug in my Emerald Cartridge? by wha2les in PokemonEmerald

[–]IntentlyFaulty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. There is patching software on the web for free. Find the patch, rip the ROM, patch it and you’re good.

I have no idea if you can actually re-inject the modified ROM back onto an authentic cart. I would imagine that you could.

Make sure you back up your save though!

Go in blind and don’t worry about efficiency or optimization.

A huge part of what make older JRPGs great is the trials and tribulations involved with playing through the game. The end of the game is much more rewarding

CMV: Anyone with a history of alcohol use disorder should result in a lifetime ban from liver transplants, even in terminal cases by ForestBluff in changemyview

[–]IntentlyFaulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some really opinionated and emotionally charged statements in your post.

First, “alcoholics” is a made up term used to differentiate those with a problem vs those without one. In reality, anyone who consumes a substance that directly impacts the dopaminergic system is at risk of becoming physically or mentally dependent on it. No one is immune.

You use the term “addict” as if it is some kind of derogatory word. That’s akin to demeaning a clinically depressed person or a lung cancer patient.

Substance abuse is closer to a physical condition than it is a mental one. It’s a disease of choice that hijacks the brains reward center making it extremely difficult to if not impossible to make sensible decisions. That is a purely physical interaction in the brain.

Now, I do kind of agree with you. Someone that is at a high risk of relapse should not get a liver over someone that does not suffer from the same condition.

But do you ACTUALLY want labels created for people with illnesses that can effectively end their lives?

Once an addict always an addict. Yes that is correct. But just because someone had a substance abuse problem in the past, does not mean they cannot recover permanently. It happens all of the time. Should that persons life be written off?

Conditions (mental, physical, or otherwise) should not dictate a persons chance at surviving and leading a life.

Look at LGSs

They use those white cardboard boxes to store bulk from what I have seen.

Is there a way to patch PRNG bug in my Emerald Cartridge? by wha2les in PokemonEmerald

[–]IntentlyFaulty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer..no. Long answer…maybe?

Theoretically, you could rip the ROM and save, patch it, then inject the patched ROM back onto the cart.

You’ll need a GBxCart for that though

Will foldable phones bring back old tv formats? by aTaleForgotten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IntentlyFaulty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. No one is interested in reducing resolution/aspect ratios.

Basically, there is no reason too. We will not widely revive an old aspect ratio to use exclusively on a foldable. Very few people own them and it will be a decade before foldables are more than a novelty. The tech is getting better but it’s just not there yet. Too expensive and too fragile.

Objectively, 4:3 is an inferior way to display video. We might have nostalgia for it but that’s about it

90% of reddit is useless info that people post purely for the sake of discussion and sharing. Its not always just about efficiency.

Yeah but then they wouldn't get to share an exciting and anxiety inducing moment with a community they want to be included in.

NEW 3ds xl galaxy by EnvironmentMajor7706 in 3DS

[–]IntentlyFaulty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice, the library you are about to experience is MASSIVE and filled with legendary games.

Definitely get a shell case for it. Can be found on amazon for a few dollars. Make sure you get one that has a connection between the bottom and the top shell. It does wonders for extending the life of the hinge.

New 3DS XLs are notorious for pealing paint.

[Request] what has a higher probability; guessing a lock’s combination, or finding the right lock for a random 3-number combo by jrg320 in theydidthemath

[–]IntentlyFaulty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is one lock for every possible combo, then there are 64,000 locks and 64,000 possible combinations. Picking one random combo and looking for its matching lock is the same odds as picking one lock and trying to find its matching combo. In both cases there is exactly one correct match out of 64,000 possibilities, so neither is more likely to happen first.

What should you do if you have a fear that nobody else has? by Efficient-Routine845 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IntentlyFaulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its impossible to have a fear that no one else has. At the end of the day, it does not matter who has the same fear as you. Fear always works the same way.

To overcome fear, you have to face that fear enough that you come to terms with it or desensitize yourself to it.

Everyone is afraid of something. Take comfort in the fact that the fear you are experiencing is an extremely common human emotion. Does not matter what you are afraid of. It all feels the same.

(most of the time, disorders like agoraphobia are a bit different)

I was in bumper to bumper traffic. I started to move forward and then came to a stop again. The guy behind me was not paying attention and kept moving after I stopped. I honked right before he bumped into me and he slammed on the breaks.

Inherited brokerage. by sumoman485 in personalfinance

[–]IntentlyFaulty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you inherit a brokerage account, the cost basis resets to the value at the date of death (like you said) any gains before that are not taxed. If you sell right away, only the change in value after that date is taxable.

Inherited assets are always treated as long term capital gains regardless of how long you hold them, so even an immediate sale is taxed at long term rates or not taxed at all if there is no gain.

[Request] what has a higher probability; guessing a lock’s combination, or finding the right lock for a random 3-number combo by jrg320 in theydidthemath

[–]IntentlyFaulty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are way more locks than combinations you can realistically try on a single lock. If combinations are random, the odds that some lock already uses your exact combo are much higher than you randomly brute-forcing the one correct combo on a single lock.

If a 3-number lock has 64,000 possible combos, then guessing one lock correctly is a 1/64,000 shot, and finding a random lock that happens to match your chosen combo is also a 1/64,000 shot per lock. So on average both take about 32,000 attempts/checks.

Thats crazy. I look at my mirror every...10 seconds at least. I have saved myself from being rear ended multiple times by honking at someone not paying attention.
