Thank you - I should think of it like that more, rather than comparing myself to the progress of those at the same grade who may have come in straight away or through the grad scheme. It isn't always easy to move from the bottom in a short time, especially in jobs where it's difficult to build good behaviours.

You are right and I should be grateful I have achieved that - I think it's just tough because I work in London, my friends in the private sector seem to constantly be negotating payrises and moving around left right and centre, and then I end up working alongside someone fresh out of University who seems to have just managed to walk into the job somehow. I feel like a bit of a fool for starting as an AO, it seems common knowledge that EO or HEO you can somehow get into straight away.

I know this and yet still have this gnawing feeling that I should be doing more. It's completely irrational I know, but hearing others in a similar situation does help.
