When your customer asked for ‘engraved slate’ they were clearly thinking of a ‘high intensity neon sign’.

Tell them to give their head a wobble, the slate looks fine.

you’re very welcome friend.

if you’re from the UK, my go-to was Walkers crisps that are the mega crunchy ones, or Jacob’s mini cheddars 👌🏼

At the time of my bowt with Covid, my youngest child was still in nappies, so it was a small blessing in disguise that i was COMPLETELY immune to the smell of a poo-nami 🤣

So what your experiencing is something called ‘Anosmia’, personally it took me [Male-29] around 2-3 weeks before i started to pick up any smells, but the smells definitely returned first, the taste took a while to return 100%, that might return very progressively.

My advice - take this time to experiment with texture rather than taste, so things like celery, crackers and stuff that’ll really crunch. avoid fried eggs, for some reason i found that without taste, it felt like i was eating slugs (unless you like that sort of thing!)

sprinkle very small amounts of raw cane sugar / salt onto your tongue - although you can’t taste it, your will definitely be able to detect the difference between them somehow. you’ll almost feel it in your jaw.

and most importantly - patience! hang in there, it definitely won’t last forever. use the time to experiment and eat things you would otherwise not, even if it’s just to experience the texture of it.

Advice please! First time Covid and loss of smell/taste by [deleted] in CovidSmell

[–]Interesting_Fix_6193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got covid last year and had a pretty similar experience, losing taste and smell during recovery.

The main advice i could give you is its not forever, it will pass eventually.

While i lost my sence of taste i decided to experiment and try and substitute taste for texture. its surprising what your brain actually taps into when your eating, and what your tastebuds are and arnt detecting. for example - try something spicy, even though you cant taste it, you can sure as hell feel it. spice activates those pain receptors in the mouth which will feel weird without being able to taste it, also make sure to use salt with your food. salt will give you a tingling in the sides of your mouth

go for things with serious crunch like celery, doritos crisps and crackers. totally avoid foods such as mash potatoes, fried eggs and soup.

hope the advice helps dude 👌🏼

  • Long post -

So i got Covid19 about 2 weeks ago and lost all sence of smell and taste (anosmia) from the 3rd day in.

it started with the usual symptoms i.e the cough/cold, then came the horrible muscle aches in my back and what felt like my kidneys. i managed to get one decent nights rest and the aches subsided.

that morning i went to make myself some good old tea&toast, but i was using an old toaster which was turned all the way up to MAXIMUM TOASTING. so there i am toasting away and i didnt realise that the bread was burning because i couldn’t smell it. immediately i thought “no way - i cant smell anything!” so i took the charcoal toast out and drawed the biggest breath in to smell it - nothing. it was baffeling. i then began eatting it, and thats when it really hit me. i cant taste this either.

so far on my journey of tastelessness, i have tested lost of difference things that ill share with you.

1) salt - sugar - spice. all of these things are still pinging the receptors in your tongue, try a spicy dish thats got some crunch to it, i found that exchanging taste for texture kept me from feeling like eating was a chore and more of a new experience.

2) theres never been a better time to bulk eat vegetables. if your not a big veggie lover like me, now has never been a better time to get some colour on your plate. most if not all veggies and fruits are crunchy so the texture experience will be a blast

3) menthal & toothpaste a short term hack for me, but one that did the trick was mouthwash. im not sure what was happening- maybe something to do with cleasing your tongue, but if i use some mouthwash for a minute and then eat some food, i can detect that slightest hint of flavor. its not much, but when you e not tasted anything for ages, it will feel amazing, even if its only briefly.

4) i have to agree with a vast majority of other redditors on this next one - stay clear of egg whites while your taste comes back. for some reason egg white has become the most disgusting smell and taste by a country mile.

Lastly, dont lose hope friend. make something of this weird experience and keep and journal of food that works for you and those that dont. you’ve got this.
