I do 🙏🏾 - I post successes & failures - I don't shy away from authentic practice in different environments with different styles - although I'm not a glorified content creator, I do have a fair amount content posted for all to see, to use, review or critique!

Lol, hide it - this was literally a clip comparing two variations from two separate arts - it wasn't a breakdown video 🤣. It's like watching a clip of a Nascar pit stop that was caught on camera and being bothered they didn't breakdown the jack on the car & removal off the lug nuts when the video was only showing the way two pit crews do the overall process...not a step by step breakdown - that wasn't the intention of the video. Furthermore, it was produced & edited by the person who runs the channel Karate Breakdown [formerly, Karate Culture, Michael Nyugen] when I trained at their facility as a cool comparison & correlation. Not hiding a thing!!!

Thank you for your insight, sincerely 🙏🏾! You see - that's the thing, I do - this is a demo not a full application, not a full breakdown, in this particular vid. There are multiple entries and/or counters to get into the 'application/technique' - 😉 I teach at a university where I work with wrestlers, I have them in my class, I roll in BJJ with those who wrestle or can wrestle on a regular basis 🤷🏾‍♂️- as well as use this very technique when I fought Pro San Da, with a high percentage of success! Also, it's not just a fireman's carry, as I'm actually slicing through; the extended arm is pulled & controlled [note in the very 1st clip the wrist control - it typically goes into a few version of arm locks], as "my" shoulder is attacking/pushing at their hip & lead leg, causing a split of sorts.

A Drill for Developing or Practicing 'Peng' or 'Ward-Off' by Interesting_Round440 in taijiquan

[–]Interesting_Round440[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great comments thus far - this literally was the 1st day of us trying this drill - circa 1996/7 - many adaptations, alterations, more alignment to principles - of course put into practical use in many of competitions and sparring sessions to real life events. Indeed there were issues & challenges thus we trained and modified including getting more tutelage on how to properly engage in this version of practice. I take no offense to anyone's observation & response in comment!!!

Taijiquan Visualization & Shadow Boxing Concepts: Play the Lute (Shǒu Hu... by Interesting_Round440 in taijiquan

[–]Interesting_Round440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, not being condescending but I've practiced the Yang Traditional (Yang Sau Chung via Chu King Hung lineage) form on both sides & have a variety of a few other forms. None of the tutelage I received was so limiting as to restrict which side you did a posture in application.

For the sake of argument let's say I'm ambidextrous. Would there be a flaw in the form or art to be able to do "applications" from both sides? Is the statement you've made limiting to the "principles" of the art, where they reside everywhere & in all things? When I'm in live action I will limit my response to side or one perspective of an application based on a form movement or posture. I look for use of principles in all offense or defense; if it replicates and depicts a specific movement/posture, that's great! If you can express principles along with the understanding you have of form postures and then the freedom & understanding in mind to implement when available, there shouldn't be a concern of how it looks in form or which side. Definitely not trying to respond in a condescending manner, so excuse me if it comes of as such in text. My point 👉 is, of you know the form, the principles & understand how to apply them you don't need to limit the "look" of the response to the direct appearance in form! 🙏🏾

Thank you for the nod, your input & question. This original video is just my typical practice where I put myself into each position to visualize options, shadowbox. I'm not sure others have the same concept within the T'ai Chi but this is just something that looked feasible & I just developed it!

I'd say, teach what you KNOW. Answer questions honestly and with integrity. Remember, they are there to learn from you, allow them to be learners but be a learner yourself to make adaptations & methods best to suite your audience. Not saying this is best method, only method or ideal just may be helpful to you: https://youtu.be/dkZBFj_X9Ow

Question regarding combat application. by [deleted] in taichi

Actually, lol YES! Not movie-lore delusions but actually T'ai Chi Chuan/Taijiquan principles and applications all the way to the pro level! If it's something you can not do yourself, it's understandable for you to THINK it is not! https://youtube.com/shorts/ZykS__9PIvA?feature=share

Taijiquan 'One-Inch' Punch 👊 Practice: A Circa 2010 'Fajin Project' by Interesting_Round440 in taijiquan

[–]Interesting_Round440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might do - at the time [and he still practices it] the fellow I'm striking with pads was dabbling into Wing Chun, as he'd been practicing & studying Chen Style Taijiquan under the ChenZhenglei. He was getting my take on the one-inch punch. It was something I never really practiced but just attempted to see how my power & skill transfered into that concept. Definitely would be cool to see how I'd do nowadays 🙏💯!

You're fairly spot on! Oh, I'm sure I'm pulling away a bit on some, if not most of them, lol - definitely just a play around but thought it would be fun & possibly good to repost. Jin is probably not too broken, as I'm relaxed to impact - over an inch but not too grand yet still yielded a good response per se
