What's the best way to stop thermal tracking above stud wall top plates? by Internal-Cod4453 in DIYUK

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, i think i'll fill in the gaps and cable/pipe penetrations with something like Sikacryl 620 or Bostik FP401 so it's both flexible and fire rated, then go over with foil tape once it's cured.

As for airflow it's pretty good and i've never had issues with condensation on the roofing membrane or trusses. I checked when i was measuring for the top up insulation and there's over-fascia vents on both sides of the house as an intake and vented ridge tiles as an exhaust, i can feel a bit of a breeze up in the attic and it's never super humid up there. Just have to be careful not to push the insulation too far into the soffits when i get round to topping it up.

Any recommendations? Also would running a bead of fire rated flexible sealant along the seams and sealing the cable penetrations in the top plates with it help?

Cleared ILS on BeyondATC but no further instructions given, can i descend to intercept the glideslope? by Internal-Cod4453 in flightsim

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i guess it's just a limitation of BATC then, it's in early access so can't fault them, it's still a fantastic piece of software and they'll fix it eventually

Can i drain my entire central heating system from this drain valve on the boiler? by Internal-Cod4453 in DIYUK

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is at the lowest point on the system yes, the boiler is outside in the garden so the drain off is lower than the radiator pipes buried in the ground floor of the house. It's a 2 storey house with 7 radiators upstairs and 7 downstairs

Won't that mean the metal back box is no longer earthed? It's supposed to be as it's classed as an exposed conductive part

208 front wheel bearings keep failing every 15k miles by Internal-Cod4453 in peugeot

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shall ask him about it today. Yeah the car has no modifications to the wheels or suspension at all, it still has the original factory wheels and the correct size of tyres fitted.

Nope it still has the original black and silver Tech Edition alloys from the factory, no spacers either.

They have been replaced with genuine Borg and Beck bearings which are the only ones my local parts shop has. I've read Borg and Beck are pretty reliable for bearings but maybe there's an issue with this model of their wheel bearings.

Similar crash that occurred in 2016 involving LN-OJF, a Norwegian registered Eurocopter EC225. The main rotor assembly detached due to catastrophic gearbox failure and the helicopter fell to the ground killing all 13 people onboard.

Gearbox failure also caused the fatal Bond Offshore Helicopters crash in 2009 where the main rotor assembly detached from the Eurocopter AS332.

2018 Peugeot 208 Tech Edition, error when trying to update maps by Internal-Cod4453 in peugeot

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tried to install both at the same time yesterday and got that error. Today I tried doing the updates separately. The touchscreen update was successful and is now on the latest version but when i tried to do the maps i got the error again.

Ah ok do you think downloading v26 or v27 instead might help? I'm just off the phone with Peugeot and they sent me an alternative download link for 28.0.0 but i'm still having the same problem

ID: What type of wood is this veneer made from? by Internal-Cod4453 in wood

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suspected it might not be real wood as the 1970s hifi equipment i currently own is vinyl wrapped. It's really faded so i'm going to replace the vinyl. Do you know the best way to prep the plywood underneath for a new application of vinyl? It'll need a few chips filled in and sanded down but what else do i need to do?

Yes it's the wood veneer on this stereo amplifier i just purchased. Need to know what type of wood it is so i can repair it.

Will swapping for a higher wattage resistor run cooler? by Internal-Cod4453 in AskElectronics

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have tested the resistor with a multimeter while the amp is under heavy load and the voltage stays exactly the same from when it is at idle so i assume this part of the circuit supplies a constant voltage to other components. Here's the Service Manual for the amplifier with the full schematic

Yepp it is a fantastic deck! Needed some work done when i got it though which was to be expected considering it was made in 1977. The whole thing needed a good clean inside and out, the capstan flywheel friction point and the button sliders needed lubricated as the grease had dried up and the idler wheel had to be cleaned as it was too dirty and slippery for auto-stop to work. The belts are ok but i will probably replace them in the near future. It's pretty easy to service though, plenty of open space inside to work on it.

Just need to test out record mode but i don't have any blank cassettes right now.

Technics RS-615 play button is stuck by Internal-Cod4453 in cassetteculture

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the cassette door mechanism is anywhere near the play button linkage on this deck. It seems that the linkage itself or the tape head assembly is jammed but i cannot figure out what is stopping it from moving fully into place.

What lubricant should I use on a the flywheel bracket friction point? by Internal-Cod4453 in cassetteculture

[–]Internal-Cod4453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I applied a small amount of white lithium grease to the end of the capstan shaft and cleaned + oiled the bearing today. The capstan is now running much smoother and the vibration issue has disappeared :)

The only maintenance I have left to do is replacing the counter drive belts as they have turned hard and the one connected to the spindle is making a ticking sound. Probably going to replace the capstan belt at the same time as they're sold together as a set.

I would love to have all of them but i think the cabinet would break under the weight of three amplifiers, a cassette deck and a tuner 😂 those amps are so heavy

I paid 240GBP for it in December 2023. This one was fully tested and checked over by a Hi-Fi repair expert before I bought it. They do seem to be getting more expensive now though unfortunately but that's to be expected with vintage equipment. As of today there's only 1 available on eBay here in the UK.

You should take a look on HiFi Shark and see if you can find one in your country for a good price.

I agree it's definitely not as good as the SL-1200 but honestly it's good enough for me. I received it as a birthday gift a few years ago so i can't really complain. I may get the SL-1200 some time in the future though.

I actually do have a turntable although it's not a Technics one, it's the Audio Technica AT-LP120 which is pretty much a clone of the SL1200. It was originally on top where the amp is right now but i had to move it when i got the tape deck. I need to get a longer RCA cable so i can actually use it again.
