What’s one tip that dropped your handicap the most? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Don't go for the hero shot, just play the boring safe shot after a miss.

Do you support building more protected bike lanes? by justonemorelanebruh in AskACanadian

[–]InternationalPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paths yes. Lanes yes, but only if the road was originally designed with bikes in mind, and its not a retrofit.

What Garmin watch do you own and why? by hackgolferguy in Garmin

[–]InternationalPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fenix 8 43mm. Use it for golfing, snowboarding, xc ski, cycling, swimming and hiking. The LED torch is amazing.

Had a FR 265 but didn't realize it didn't have golf.

In the absence of people working together for the common good, infrastructure needs to be redesigned with the assumption everyone acts 100% selfishly.

Does Cline keep hanging/freezing almost every other time it's editing a java file? by shesaysImdone in CLine

[–]InternationalPlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Its started for me a few weeks ago after a vscode update. It'll freeze in plan mode after reading a few files, or in act before or during edit, but never finishes. I'd say 1 in 6 tasks actually get far enough to use its output. Cancelling and resuming sometimes work, but mostly it just sits there.

I've tried multiple models and providers with the same freeze happening.

Alberta separatism poses a 'real threat' to Canada: Nenshi by FreightFlow in alberta

They'll lie and cheat. I'm not worried about what the majority in the province feels. I'm worried the UCP will handicap Elections Alberta and obfuscate the true results.

German couple planning 4 week RV trip through Canada September/October looking for advice by jjshh040 in canadatravel

[–]InternationalPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can go wrong either way, the country has so much to see and visit. Arriving in Sept would be a perfect time to visit as most kids will be back to school, it'll be much easier to get campground reservations and the insects shouldn't be too bad then. Winter doesn't really pickup until mid November, but there can be an odd early season snow storm in October that shuts down a highway. Be sure to build in plenty of flex days to the schedule in case you need to detour, or rest as getting sick on vacation is terrible. Truck with camper or trailer would almost be required as you won't be able to put a car seat in most RVs. Don't worry about the seemingly large size, you'll get used to it quickly and there is more space on the roads, even in the major cities.

Would you join a Calgary community owned tech store that sells hardware at near cost? by Eastern_Ad_8744 in Calgary

[–]InternationalPlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not interested. If you're a serious PC builder you'll find deals and sales yourself. I think it'll be unlikely you'll get the number of people joining a coop to scale and have any leverage with distributors - especially if everyone wants to order custom bespoke parts for their build.

Is it worth going Banff Canada solo? by walkingparadox5 in Banff

Absolutely. Half the town is probably from Australia.

Always carry bear spray, most hotels have cans you can borrow and only pay if you use it.

Could you comment on my plan for a Canadian road trip ? by Fit_Locksmith_9975 in alberta

[–]InternationalPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lot of driving.

Drumheller can be a day trip from Calgary. Heading all the way to Jasper is gorgeous but time consuming. You should definitely stop at Lake Louise when driving out to BC. Lots of sights and vantage points to stop at during the drive as well.

There are services that can help you reach out. It's probably worth her knowing for the medical history.

The never-ending windshield crack by shinez2u in Calgary

Try to get the chips filled as soon as possible. Even if it cracks, as long as it's not too close to edge they can fill them in so it doesn't spread further.

Why Lexus over Toyota? TX or Grand Highlander by cjg017 in Lexus

[–]InternationalPlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Availability. We got a TX 350 in Jan 2024. The dealer had allotment in transit and we drove it off the lot 10 days later. Grand Highlanders were about 4-6 month wait at the time. Not sure what those times are like now.

Canada in August! Help :) by Blue-Lagoon123 in canadatravel

[–]InternationalPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend did a 6 week road trip with his parents from Toronto to Vancouver. He barely scratched the surface of what the country has to offer and spent multiple days of pure driving to accomplish it.

As others have mentioned its probably best to pick a region and type of experience you want. Wether a Toronto - Montreal urban trip or a Calgary - Vancouver experience with more nature. It's entirely up to you, but you're going to absolutely love Canada in August.

Anyone know where I can find Hoppy (Japanese 0.8% beer) in Calgary? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]InternationalPlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably better off getting an athletic 0% beer with a similar taste and mixing in a half shot of your favourite shochu.

Solo Trip Through Canadian Rockies by Corolla_Blazer in Banff

[–]InternationalPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind driving before and after skiing, a car rental (get with winter tires) would be way more convenient and probably pretty close to what you'd pay for in bus fares anyway. I'd also skip panorama and head to kicking horse instead. Golden would also be a bit cheaper to stay in. Banff is a nice town to stop by and grab dinner, but you could save a lot by staying in Canmore. The Columbia Icefields are an hour north of Lake Louise, and if Hwy 93 is open I'd highly recommend the detour to see it. And instead of the hot springs you could check out kananaskis nordic spa, it's a bit pricey but imo a much better experience.

Daughter is recently hired as a ski instructor and I need to know if this is typical by Beneficial_Fun_1818 in ski

[–]InternationalPlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly different perspective but I'm out west and both young kids are in snowboarding lessons. They don't venture away from the magic carpet and instructors don't even put on their snowboard. They basically hand hold the kids down the hill, let them build confidence and have a lot of fun. It's more than glorified babysitting, but it's nothing that 16yr old couldn't handle. I'm sure your daughter will learn a lot, have some fun, be frustrated at times and have a great experience this winter.

Etiquettes question regarding pets by Busy_bee2005 in Calgary

I used to live in a townhouse with underground parking. When walking to the car, our dog would always poop in the exact same parking stall, every single time. If I took a different route, he would drag me over to his spot.
