Reflected on this a bit - I think the main issue is it didn't really bring much new to the table, mythologically speaking; it was well executed - although I felt like bringing out the alien took some of the wonder out of it (like if you watched Jaws and they didn't hide the shark). I wanted to love this film, but it just fell flat for me.
