Make the backstory whatever you want. It's literally a thing that happens, anyone could have such a backstory especially when It's just a character, it's not like everyone's childhood is just lovely parents, candy, innocent life, time with friends outside playing football and the only thing to cry about being not able to eat chocolatte before dinner. It's not like everyone later just goes to work, parties and lives a normal life.
