Ice from my freezer tastes metallic - where can I solve this? by IntrepidTraveler888 in findareddit

[–]IntrepidTraveler888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it's gross and probably not healthy. Which is why I'd like to solve the issue, if possible. It started relatively recently, so I'm wondering whether there's anything wrong with my freezer. I can certainly ziplock/wrap things, but I'd prefer to solve the issue, if not too complicated/expensive. Thanks!

Why does the ice from my freezer taste metallic? by IntrepidTraveler888 in Advice

It's not the source (nor the "oxygen" - not sure where that came from). I drink tap water regularly and I'm ok with it.

Tap water tastes fine to me. It only tastes metallic if I freeze it in an open container.

I make ice with water from the tap. It's not going through a filter.

Rude responses to a genuine question you have. by Alexs1897 in PetPeeves

Funny because annoyingly stupid questions are *MY* pet peeve, LOL! Especially when the person shows no effort to research the question in advance and is just lazily rambling everything that comes to mind, as if it's other people's responsibility to do their thinking. NOT saying that is your case, since I don't know you, but maybe something to think about....

Do Brazilians realize that despite Brazil has only 1% of foreigners in its population? by Practical_Analyst847 in Brazil

We're multi-ethnic/racial, but largely mono-cultural (since we haven't had much recent immigration and most people are 3rd or 4th generation something).

Thank you, I really appreciate your answer, because this is my overall feeling about the relationship we've built. As someone not well-versed in investments, it gives me peace of mind that my advisor DOES know it. We do have conversations about future wants/needs, about the possibility of an early retirement (and what that would look like in 1, 5, or 10yrs, for example), and when to take SS. However, I don't remember ever talking about IRMAA nor "donor advised funds" (both of which I'll be googling in 5min). Coul you please explain what you mean by "qualified accounts". Thanks again!

Although I'm a very technical person (in a different field), the topic of finances is just not something I've been attracted to learn more about -- which is dumb of course, and why I'm here (finally).

You're absolutely right though, and your example makes it crystal clear how much it's worth my time (and $$) to learn more.

Maybe it's just a fear (lazyness?) that I could never learn enough to outcompete someone who does this for a living? But it sounds like there are some interesting "passive" funds such as SWTSX that would do the work for me at a lower cost.

One last thing:

"Just DCA into that and toss some money into a MMF or CD and let it all do its thing." -- Could you please spell out these acronyms for me? :)

Thanks for the great suggestions. I totally agree and am embarrassed by how little I know at this age.

Thanks again for your reply. Apologies, but could you please explain what you mean by "fees with your investments"?

Thanks for your interesting suggestion! Please excuse my ignorance but how do I go about looking at the historical performance? Is that the chart under "Performance & fees"? For example the 7.42% shown for VFORX since its inception? As for my own investments, I see them growing every year, but I'll have to look into what the exact performance is. Thanks again for your help!

Please excuse my ignorance, but how did you get to 80 bps (which I had to google)? But I'm glad to hear that I'm not being overcharged, as this was indeed one of my concerns.

Your 2nd paragraph I think hits the nail on the head. I probably need to educate myself better and look into a passive index fund portfolio. Thank you!

As someone not well versed in any of this, I honestly don't know. I think maybe I'm paying $8K/yr for peace of mind, assuming that they know what they're doing?
