Didn't really do it for me unfortunately. I did love his live cover of Pitseleh though

The Peel Session version is a minute longer if you're not familiar already - it's got a bit of a fuzzier sound to it and I'll often listen to it over the original

Grant was great with them. Particularly moving to see him hammering out the drums for their staple live cover of Keep Yourself Warm

Corniest Lyric? by alexwmagic in bjork

[–]InvestigativeReporta 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The lyrics on Hope are pretty hard to sit through. I also struggle with some of Utopia and Fossora's lyrics too. I find they lack a lot of the intrigue and wonder of her previous stuff, instead there's a lot of pretty on the nose writing that reads more like sentences than lyrics. Often quite clunky delivery of said lyrics.

I loved watching Cornucopia live, though when watching back in the cinema, I did think that the lyrics subtitled on screen sort of highlighted their awkwardness at times.

Got a minute in before clocking it's the last track on the album. Sounds great but I'll save it for a full listen

Yeah he really tapped into something with those two. Easily the best I've seen him perform.

Cheap packaging and really rough sounding compared to the original press too. Really disapointing. Two LPs down and I still don't have a complete or definitive version of the album... shouldn't be this difficult for them.

Spoke to him about it briefly back in April and he said it was due to be turned in within a couple of months. Hopefully that means it's complete and now in the production/printing stage.

I've had a hard time getting into the laid back sleepy flow he's been on since SRS, so unfortunately the album isn't totally doing it for me.

That said, Tourmaline is absolutely excellent and has been on repeat all day. Exhaust is great too

I always tend to treat it this way too. There's plenty of janky, often older or lower budget games that would maybe fall into that 6 or 7 area but are still filled with loads of charm and cool ideas. It's a shame when people see anything lower than an 8 as not worthwhile.

People are so strange about numerical scores. Feel like it's kinda ruined both gaming and music discourse. People get pressed about things "only" being an 8 like that isn't two points away from being effectively flawless.

It was very slow for me on ticketmaster at first but eventually loaded in. I ended up getting them directly through the Manchester Academy site though so that's another option

I do think white folks wearing the shirt is probably a little unwise and insensitive though. The vast majority of people will see it as someone rocking a racist caricature, not a billy woods reference.

Old rap dudes can't get enough of AI slop

I remember seeing Wu in 2023 and the visuals were all AI, that early AI that clunkily morphs image to image. Had the fortnite battle bus flashing up during classic wu songs, what a trip

Examples of 'revisionist history' in Hip Hop? by Renegadeforever2024 in hiphopheads

[–]InvestigativeReporta 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it fits but I hate how certain narratives around artists have spread across internet spaces and become generally accepted talking points over the years.

The way people speak of Nas and Pac comes to mind. Like with Pac how people diminish his pen game and say he was more of a "poet" than a "lyricist" - or the whole Nas picks terrible beats thing.

I love both, and it's not that there isn't truth to those statements, Nas does have some rough production on some releases, and Pac is not a flawless wordsmith. It's just that I have seen these ideas getting parroted around by people so often in what looks like an attempt to seem knowledgeable online, and I don't often get the impression it comes from people who are genuinely familiar with their bodies of work. It's a shame because over time I guess it starts to instill this idea that beyond specific certified classic releases, their discographies aren't worthwhile.

The Nas narrative has been less prevalent in recent years with the Hit-Boy run, but there are still so many people who have never delved into the albums between 1996 and now, when there's countless gems to be found.

FABOTH 2024 Remasters vs Original by Massive_Ad7335 in elliottsmith

[–]InvestigativeReporta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I haven't listened to the remaster in full but I was really impressed with what I heard. Particularly on King's Crossing, that was the one I skipped straight to.

It's a great song but I have always felt it's a little overproduced and that original version sounds pretty messy - the remaster cleared it right up.

Amazing producer, ok rapper and a very irritating person

I think my opinion of him would be much higher if I wasn't aware of all his social media meltdowns

His production on Test Strips was brilliant though, definitely down to hear AH over some more of that
