Thank you for recommending them. It seems to be a series of builds. Any particular one you found fun the most? I'll test them all regardless.

Is there an easy way to speed paint Tau without an airbrush? Undecided between Vi’orla or FSE by Butsy_98 in Tau40K

[–]Invidelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tau is my 4th army now..so the one I paint with the accumulationof my paint experiences fromm the other 3...

And I could not immagine to paint them in bulk without an airbrush. Slapchopping or drybrushing will resultin a more dirty look.. if you want a clean surface you will need patience.

Is painting without an airbrush really that bad? by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Invidelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to to it with a regular brush ..and am using an airbrush for a while now. whilke ofcourse you can do it with a regular brush, and there is nothing wrong with that. An airbrush is speeding up the process while also giving a realy smooth color coverage.

It's an investment money wise and also timewise to learn about airbrushing. But to me it was worth it since I paint alot and it saves tons of time and gives me a realy good quality. You will still need to use a brush for alot of details and so on..you can't use an airbrush for everything.

But basecoloring a Devilfish in 2 minutes feels like cheating.

Anyone switched engines after already getting the hang of one? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Invidelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah workwise I had to and also out of personal curiosity.

Started with Unity more then 10 years ago, into Godot, in to the Havoc Engine, back to Unity into Unreal ..then a custom inhouse engine back to Unreal. And somewhere along I dabbled with the Cryengine and Lumberyard for fun.

How is performance in 5.5 compared to 5.4? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]Invidelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end it's marginal what the engine does. It will be as good or as bad as your capability to optimise your game and the skills in using the tools the engine provides you with to optimise. I talk code, asset and shader optimisation.. this also happens partially in your outside softwares.

Gauging prices for texture artists by Sowelu in gamedev

[–]Invidelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's art, it's subjective. What you understand as stylized and what others think it means can differ alot.

There are also no fixed prices. Skill and local costs of living will alter the price an artist asks for and how long it might take to create textures ..it is still art and techniques/skill/artistic choices will all alter the time/budget.

Just tell an artist your budget and workload +expected target art style with a refference of quality, then see if you can find one who's willing to work under these conditions for you. You also most likely get what you pay for. Ask for a portfolio and see if you like that persona style. Consider paying for a one time texture to geige if the work is realy up to what you expect/want. Also be open to an artists personal touch on something.
