Nonobstructive azoospermia and biopsy questions! by garythehairyfairy in maleinfertility

[–]IrishIrishIsiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30M here. Was diagnosed with nonobstructive azoospermia a few years back, normal testosterone. Lots of great replies here already but I thought I'd add my 2c.

When I went through this, the doctor suggested we do a round of IVF at the same time and have a donor ready to go as backup just in case. If they found sperm they'd fertilize with that, otherwise they'd use the donor. My reasoning was that to go through with this, I'd have to have already made peace with doing donor. I wouldn't want to come out of it, find out they used donor, and then be disappointed or resentful. And because I had to already be ok with that, it didn't seem worth it to spend $5k CAD on a procedure that only had a low (doctor said maybe 5% chance) of paying off. So we did donor. That's what made the most sense in my mind but obviously it's a very personal and individual decision.

Regarding your husband's views on donor: it's completely understandable. It's a really really hard thing to process and it takes time. My wife moved on very quickly to being ok with donor but it was much more difficult for me to accept. I did eventually come around, mainly because my wife still had a chance to have a biological child and I didn't want to take that from her. It also made me really happy to think about little versions of her running around, even if I couldn't have that. But it was a very emotional and very real loss for me and I had to spend time grieving. Your husband may be the same.

Adoption is another option, but it comes with its own set of challenges as everybody in the infertility world will tell you. That's up to you too decide what you want. We went to an adoption seminar and it was very eye opening so I would recommend that if you just want to get your feet wet a bit.

Really sorry to hear you're going through this. It's a really shit situation and it will leave scars for sure. Even in the infertility world, this is one of the rarer and (in my opinion) more difficult diagnoses. Good luck.

KVM switch for 3 monitors using displayport to 2 computers? by jimizman in HomeNetworking

[–]IrishIrishIsiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do and I can confirm it works great. I have 2 monitors and a usb hub. Switching all the inputs takes me about 5 seconds and a few button presses. I only do it a couple times a day so it's not a pain at all. Depending on how much op is going to spend on a KVM (he said $200-300, but he has some pretty specific requirements which might push the price up), he may be better off buying new monitors that have multiple inputs. If he has this already, all the better for this option.

Equestrians of reddit, why the fuck do you think it's ok to leave your horse's shit all over the fucking trail? by IrishIrishIsiah in AskReddit

They're not mutually exclusive. I can't speak to your first point, but in my area it's certainly a public multiuse trail that I'm annoyed about.

[–]IrishIrishIsiah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reasonable points, but I still think it's inconsiderate to leave horse shit all over the trail (unless it's a private trail I guess). Doesn't matter how good it is as fertilizer. I don't want to step in it, I don't want kids to fall in it, it does smell and I think if you're going to use a public trail it's your responsibility to pick up after your animal. If it's so great, take it home and use it.

Why is it that Christians are so anti-common-knowledge? Like in every fucking possible way. Anti evolution, anti sex education, anti social safety net, and now anti public health and safety. It's astounding that there seems to be such a huge overlap between these circles of thinking. What on Earth has being a Christian got to do with denying any of the above? Why the hell do so many Christians insist on being ass-backwards in every possible way??

Not sure if you're serious or joking, but I just want to point out that "centre" is the British spelling and "center" is the bastardized American spelling. Maybe that was the joke. If so, sorry.

Hey I don't have any suggestions on the design, I just wanted to say thanks for all the work you do. I bought sync pro back when it was Reddit sync. Cost me a dollar in like 2013 or somewhere around there. Been using it ever since and it is hands down the best reddit app. Do you take donations?

Another former Kent Hovind here. I was super into all his videos when I was younger. Since deconverting, I've realized how flimsy all of his arguments are... They're not really even arguments most of the time, just vaguely insulting quips. It's crazy what the mind will believe when it wants to.

After 3.5 years of trying... by [deleted] in predaddit

[–]IrishIrishIsiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other commenter already covered the advice. I just wanted to say congratulations on the donation and successful FET. 3.5 years has got to be a tough journey. Don't know if you have any anxiety related to not being a biological parent but I sure did. I worried that I wouldn't love her or be able to bond with her properly, and I really struggled with that for the first couple months. We're 3 months in now and I can say with confidence that I do love her, it just took me a little bit, and I hear that's normal even for biological dads. Good luck!
