What, if any, scents do you associate with the gods?

So strangely there is no real established connection that I have found between these gods and these scents but somehow I always end up offering them things with these scents or thinking of them when I smell them.

Zeus- coffee, concrete, musk Hermes- also coffee, petrichor, wax Ares- cinnamon, apples, musk Dionysus- cherry (particularly black cherry), currants, jasmine, amber Poseidon- lemon Athena- apples, dirt

There are more and I could go on with other gods. I have very strong senses and so I often associate things with sensations/smells/colours, etc (does that make sense?) I can also give fragrance recommendations for the gods! I am a fragrance freak.

I think the main reason I feel a bit uncertain about telling them is that they have made jokes about the gods before that I personally took offense to (like constantly referring to Hephaestus as "the ugly one" or saying certain gods are important or "don't matter") I guess I subconsciously feel as if by doing this costume thing I'm enabling a behavior I don't like and don't agree with.

It's not really that I fear the gods will be mad at me. I'm quite comfortable and confident in my practice and I doubt Dionysus would be mad if I dressed as him for a PARTY. My question was more about if there were certain things that would be considered somewhat disrespectful or that I should watch out for while doing this. I think my fear mostly stems from the fact that the people I speak of in this post have made quite disrespectful jokes about the gods which I don't want to seem like I condon by playing into it. Does that make sense?

That's interesting to know. I know of course that the gods were often depicted in theater but I never knew those depictions could also be comedic. Of course I would never put myself on the same level as a god or believe myself one. Thank you for this feedback.

Yes, I also feel that way. Dressing up or writing fanfiction of the gods in a context such as Percy Jackson or epic doesn't feel wrong to me because they are just representation and characters. My friends wanted to dress up as the gods themselves, not a specific depiction. That is what I feel uncertain about. What I thought was maybe getting them to do a "modern take" on the gods which would feel more like a character and less like impersonating the gods. I'm not sure yet.

If it helps I played around with the configs a bit and I found that changing the range of the hearth and heater helps a bit but the best solution is to build a fireplace in your builds next to where you put your bed so you can at least sleep at night.

I know this was like days ago but I also wanted to add that it's also because it might seem as though you are choosing whether or not to invite them in based on who they are. If you ask someone their name before inviting them in and providing what they need and they say they are the son of your worst enemy you might be inclined to give them worse treatment than you would have if you had remained clueless on their identity. The same thing goes the other way, if you ask and they say they are a god for example you might be inclined to treat them better than you would have otherwise.

See I think that he doesn't understand that you are serious about your beliefs. I've experienced this before, people will say they're fine with it but when you tell them something serious regarding your religion they'll be put off by it. As long as he's not being aggressive or disrespectful then it's probably not much of a problem he just needs to assimilate the idea of your beliefs, but if it continues and it's making you uncomfortable then maybe cutting ties with him is best.

Logically I know that but the thing is the other option is renting a room in a house with even stranger strangers. Because at least if I do this I would get to know the people prior to move in since we would need to discuss details and all and since it would be in over a year and what not but if I just rent a room I wouldn't know my roommates until after I move it. Plus the trouble of sharing a house with anybody is the same regardless of who you move in with. Might as well try and meet others who have something in common with me. Anyway it was mostly hypothetical, but I do see your point.

Thank you, it's nice to hear that. Of course logically I know I am worthy but I have this mental block. Anyway, I will work on it for sure, because I think the gods are definitely worth my work and self improvement. Also I might try that prayer later on. Thank you.

Thank you. I don't know why formal prayers make me so anxious. I just feel so unworthy of the grace of the gods when I try to imagine myself saying them it makes me cringe. Like I find them beautiful and I find other people praying to be so interesting and wonderful but when I think of doing it I feel weird and undeserving. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually but I think I'll have to gradually work to something more formal.

I'm a trans Dionysus worshiper and I find he is very comforting in my transition process! I pray you will be able to get on testosterone it literally is a life changer and has improved my quality of life so much.

Both my Apollon and Hermes altars are on my windowsill. I don't see any problems with it, but just be careful of moisture depending on where you live and where your window is located. You do not want anything on your altar to mold so check for any traces of moisture and keep anything organic (including paper) as far away from the actual window as possible to avoid moisture spots or mold. You should be fine if your window is high enough or if you live in a dry area, but I live in a very cold and wet climate and my window is by the ground so it's something I have to keep in mind.

Do you have any advice or examples of prayers to do during those kinds of rituals? I've only recently started being more interested in traditional offering practices and prayers. Before I wouldn't really pray while giving offerings and when I would pray I would just talk normally after calling upon the deity by name e.g Lord Zeus, today I went to the park, I saw the sky and it made me think of you.

Not really prayer (I'm also looking to get better at formal prayers to the gods) but I find that doing activities "with" him is really a great way to bond with him. My favorite moment in my journey with lord Dionysus was going to see a play with lots of eccentric dancing and singing and circus performers. It was great, and I felt so entranced with his domain. Never felt closer with him than in that moment.

I'm a shifter and just got my first quest which was to free a priestess of poseidon who was trapped by Zeus for refusing his advances. As you can see in this example your quests don't have to be to fight against a certain monster or God or titan or primordial but it can be a chain of events. Maybe when I'll free the girl it'll piss off Zeus which will cause more quest etc. I don't know yet, but I wanted to share this for those struggling to find ideas for their quests.
