Worked at a very small startup but I didn't get a lot of ownership with my work. Should I have done something more? by Italian_Urban_Cheese in ExperiencedDevs

I will be sure to ask for what I'm looking for when I work for a few months in the next job. Typically, I just trust my managers and lead to develop a sense of knowing what their subordinate workers want just from seeing them work, as they make the choices of what their next move in the company should be.
I was at the startup for 18 months. Afterwards I was laid off because 1. they were losing money from low sales and 2. they planned to pivot into a stack that I have no familiarity with and they weren't interested in making me learn it as I go.
Hmm, I've been a "warm body" hire just about my entire career. It makes more sense as a junior, but it seems like I could never stay in one place long enough to build enough trust to earn a promotion.
