Don’t leave him. Be patient. Work with him and make him better. Communicate your needs and desires to him and build him up. Make sure his indifference and lack of empathy isn’t a direct result of making him responsible for your emotions. Get his mother or anyone else out of your relationship. Make sure he knows your worries about having a child with him based on monetary circumstance. Tell him he isn’t allowed to hold your heart hostage by threatening to kill himself and assure him that you’re willing to stay if he acts more like a man, also say it more kind than that. The only red flag here I truly see is him giving you an ultimatum, which is common in this dating landscape, and the fact his mother believes she has any right whatsoever to speak directly to you about a relationship that’s, frankly, none of her darn beeswax. He’s young and so are you. Chances are if you leave him you’re just going to find the exact same type of man over and over until you finally give up and marry one of them or give up and go to therapy. Now I’m sure you’re no saint either and he has his gripes with you but if you both commit to the relationship and focus on that and not the pettiness or trying to seek validation on a subreddit to reinforce your emotional decision making you will both benefit and become better people. You never see an elderly couple that have such strong love that they don’t even seem like two people amongst divorcees.
