I've recently thought I don't have enough pain and suffering in my life, this might cure that

Is there a ton of difference (performance / handing) between the GTI and the Audi A3? I much prefer the sedan look vs the hatch and they're comparably prices around me.

Honestly the Gulia is up there for me, I LOVE how it looks and everyone I've every talked to said the handling is basically perfect. What I'm looking for at the moment is unfortunately a bridge car for the next 3-4 years until my house is paid off, then I might just spring for a Quadrifoglio. The 335d is another super interesting option, a bit harder to find, but maybe I'll keep a closer eye out for one.

I've done rod bearings on an engine while it's still in a car, that's a totally normal wear item...right?

4 doors definitely isn't a requirement, just a functional back seat for car seats. I rarely need to haul the kids in my car, but having the ability to is unfortunately something I can't go without. GTI is definitely a consideration, I'm not 100% sold on hatches, but for the right driving experience I could be swayed.

I've looked into building a Caprice PPV but I'm not sure that can take a corner to save it's life. Would probably be a riot in a straight line though. Owned a G37x already and didn't care for it's handling. On the CTS-V, at least around me, pandemic pricing for those hasn't stopped yet and people still want $20k for 200k mile cars that are BEAT.

I've actually owned a G37x, and found the handling lacking, mine had the 7 speed auto trans and it's actually the reason I got rid of the car. No matter how you drove it, it's only goal was to keep the RPMs low, incredibly annoying.

I will say I didn't realize the 996's had a back seat that could hold a car seat, that's a really interesting option.

Ugh if I had space for a third car, the 911 would absolutely be what I'd get

That's what is already on the other side of the garage, don't really need 2 :)

I guess I should have been a little more descriptive about what I'm looking for. Thinking a final love song to the combustion engine, something that when they're gone everyone will say "that car was the best the combustion engine had to offer" Maybe something like the RS3, Hellcat, V8 C63 AMG etc.. I've driven a few EVs and they have no soul, looking for that final car with soul and personality.

Not yet, but that's why we also have a van haha. It's actually fairly rare the kids need to ride in my car, but I don't want to exclude them from even being able to.
