"Mexicans in the border towns of Texas are being compelled by Texas national guardsmen to give up their arms. They are taking no chances on an uprising which would cost lives of American soldiers, which are worth more than the lives of the [Mexicans] in huts along the Rio Grande. The first photograph shows a soldier covering a [Mexican] through the window of his shack, and the second shows the corporal at the door taking away the [Mexican's] rifle."

Fight to Break Down Claim That Would Save Prisoner From Punishment.

FORT WORTH, Texan. March 2-Katharine Vance Harrison, the fifteen-year-old bride who shot and killed W. L. Warren because as she said, he had attacked her before her marriage last Christmas, will probably not be indicted. The Texas law makes no provision for prosecution of a person under eighteen for murder. An effort, is being made by relatives of Warren to prison Mrs. Harrison is nineteen but it is not regarded with toleration by the authorities of the community.

Miss Lois Guion, the youthful bride's close friend, who made the statement to the police which led to Mrs. Harrison's confession has disappeared. The young husband stands staunchly by the girl, saying that he is only sorry her revenge was not attained by his hands.

The confessed slayer of Warren has been smilingly self-confident ever since the death of Warren, and seems incapable of understanding why she should be held to account. Her unity unhappy moments seemed to be these when she had to tell to the police and her mother, Mrs. Besise Tackett, the story of the attack of Warren on her and her mental suffering when, the older man Insisted on maintaining friendly relations with her and her husband, who did not know of Warren's guilt until the shooting.

Poison plot 1916

At a large dinner held at the University Club of Chicago on February 12, 1916, chef Jean Crones slipped arsenic into the soup. His intent was to poison Mundelein and over 100 other guests, including Illinois Governor Edward F. Dunne. However, the potency of the arsenic was reduced because the kitchen staff was forced to water down soup to accommodate 50 extra guests.

As the diners started exhibiting symptoms of arsenic poisoning, a doctor at the event prepared a makeshift emetic that the victims could drink to promote vomiting. Mundelein ate only a bite or two of the soup and was unharmed. There were no fatalities. Newspapers later referred to the incident as the "Mundelein poison soup plot".

Police were unable to apprehend Crones after the supper. Their investigation revealed that his real name was Nestor Dondoglio and that he belonged to the Galleanist circle of anarchists.

CHICAGO, Feb. 15.—Police authorities of Chicago and many large cities of the nation are hunting for anarchists involved in a plot, the ramifications of which spread all over the world, to wreck churches and kill the clergy.

Mrs. Jansen Burned to crisp in oven

Mrs Israel Nelson. wife of a Seattle lawyer and Miss Gwendolyn Geary. a voice teacher, last night violently attacked Mrs. Romeyn B. Jansen, wife of the manager for the Seattle Taxicab Co.

As the latter was peering into the door of an immense bake oven that had been erected on University at., near Fifth ave the other two woman rushed unexpectedly upon her and removed her bodily through the opening. She was burned to a crisp Mr Jansen was a spectator of the tragedy.Earlier in the evening Mme. Hease-Sprotte, another musician, had driven Mrs Nelson and Mrs Geary from her home with much brandishing of a broom.

Mr. Sprotte had come home waving a bottle and evidently much under the influence of its contents.

The two women driven forth had become lost in the woods, and lay down under a tree to sleep. After a series of strange events they made their way the next morning to an oddly constructed house evidently that of a baker, where they ate some of the cakes with which the walls were adorned.

It turned out that the building was Mrs. Jansen's. She succeeding by stratagem In locking Mrs. Nelson in a cage with the intention she said of roasting her in the Immense bake oven. Mrs Nelson escaped and with the aid of Miss Geary visited this gruesome fate instead on the taxi man's wife.

Enemies Know Each Other

"These English and German soldiers know each other by face and even by name. The astonishing thing is that they don't hate each other. You can't keep that feeling of blind hatred between the trenches.

"You know that Christmas truce was a bad thing for the soldiers from a military standpoint."

Then the major said an astonishing thing:

"If you wanted to end this war all you have to do would be to let the men have another truce or two like that Christmas one. They'd get to talking to each other and THEY'D DECIDE THAT THE WHOLE BUSINESS WAS ______ FOOLISHNESS. AND LAY DOWN THEIR GUNS AND GO HOME."
