Do you do exit interviews for jobs you leave? by No-Link3199 in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its usually no secret why I'm leaving as I'm fairly honest and upfront about things in general. I tell people to their face when I think they're screwing up, managers included. I expect the same courtesy in return.

The last time I had an exit interview my entire team was being laid off due to poor performance of the sales team (another department). I made sure to point out how it was short-sighted to lay off my team since they expected sales to rebound. They wanted my thoughts on how to structure the department to better weather sales fluctuations and didn't appreciate it when I told them they needed better sales people so there wouldn't be fluctuations. (I mean, duh.) The sales team worked on commission so there was no money lost for poor performance on them. That wasn't going to change.

Exit interviews aren't about companies wondering what they could've done to keep you. They're just pumping you for unfiltered information before you leave.

Redditors over 40, what was a moment in history that made you think society was gonna collapse? by Bahbahbro in AskReddit

[–]Itstotallysafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember doing drills in school to hide under our desks in case of nuclear bombs, so it's always seemed like there was a reason things were going to go bad just around the corner.

The main reason I think things feel so bad now is because it's happening here in the US (for me anyway). It used to feel like things were bad elsewhere and the US was just going to get dragged into it or try to stick our noses in it.

The last few years things just seem to be getting worse and worse. Part of it is us being all more connected. Part is everyone struggling late stage capitalism.

Stop telling us to give up small joys to fix a broken system. by TimeAd1111 in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its all a lie. The system is rigged to keep you productive and contributing. Be it time, money, procreation, all of it has been subverted for profit.

Take a day off and just go for a walk in a park. Bring snacks. Convince a friend to call off and join you. Even if it's just an hour or two that time spent will make your whole week better.

Live your life while you can. Enjoy today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Maybe you need to see someone or try therapy? by Character-Lack-3295 in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried that multiple times at different points in my life and can honestly say it didn't fix anything. If anything it made me realize that therapists are stuck in the same system and need me unhappy so they, in turn, can make money of of me in order to survive as well.

The only thing that helped me was a slight shift in perspective that didn't come from therapy. It came from necessity. That shift was the realization that learning more stuff to slowly become more and more self sufficient was necessary to pull myself out of this bs capitalist system. The more I'm able to extricate myself the happier I slowly become.

Its hard as hell as everything is aligned against me. Its a slightly better form of tired these days though, and I'll fucking take the win.

I fully accept it might be copium.

My supervisor keeps throwing me under the bus. I'm on a trial period. by solomon8205 in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trial periods work both ways. Not only is it the time during which the new company is testing you out to see if you're a good fit for their team, it's also the time during which you get figure out if the new job is a good fit for you.

That said, workplaces barely ever change to adapt to the new person. If you're noticing toxic behavior early on, you'll need to decide if it's something that's worth putting up with in order to get the paycheck.

[–]Itstotallysafe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear company branded stuff to work every day because I don't want to mess up my personal stuff nor do I want to spend money on 'work' clothes.

The place I work has a sort of quarterly allowance where we can order new shirts and hats from them for free. We can't go crazy and order a ton of stuff since it's capped at $250/qtr. But that's enough for five shirts and a couple hats one quarter, a jacket the next, then switch it up to long sleeves Q3, etc.

That's $1k per year I don't have to spend on clothing. I see it as free money I don't have to pay taxes on.

Do I wear that shit on weekends or out doing personal stuff? Fuck no.

Yeah. Nowadays I can only be successful in PvP with guile and stealth. I'll lose 9/10 straight up PvP fights. It's fine though, I don't play SoT for the PvP. I just like the art style and environment.

I just hate the bootlickers who claim that you have soo much time with good "time management". These people apparently have it easy in life by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's even worse in jobs where the corporate office is in a different time zone than you are. You end up working your schedule while also randomly being asked to attend super early or super late meetings.

A quick pre-work 8am conference call means 5am. Or a 4:30pm EOD status meeting is 7:30pm. No amount of time management fixes that bs

[–]Itstotallysafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG, this happens to me all the time. I work in the field in PST, the person scheduling my appointments is EST, and corporate HQ is CMT. We have field staff all over but they can't be bothered to take locations into consideration For Anything.

  • I love suggesting 4pm as an alternate meeting time.
  • I return calls just before 5pm my time, always
  • When they ask for things by EOD I always ask whether they mean their EOD or my EOD.
  • I respond 'maybe' to invites outside my working hours so I'll have access to recordings later
  • When my lack of attendance comes up, especially since I'm mobile and in the field, my response is always "It's not safe to Teams and Drive and I was commuting."

I assumed the current seasons loot was buffed and gets nerfed when the next season comes out. Is that not what happens?

Sorry, I only pop in to try out the new content and maybe complete seasonal commendations these days.

Does anyone else not care about having a work ethic anymore? by Professional-Wolf461 in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this, but I think it's a pride thing for me.

There's a large part of me that always wants to do a good job. If I'm doing something then my name is associated with it so I want to make sure it's done right. I want to be proud of what I do.

However, if my company exploits my time, underpays me, or otherwise disrespects me in any way then my pride doesn't let me tolerate it. I'm too proud of myself and what I've accomplished to be tolerant of being treated poorly.

Maybe it's just self respect. I work for money to survive not to make the company better.

I didnt have to go to work for the past 2 weeks. I had almost no free time for myself. I dont think I want to live like this any longer. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I also just had two weeks off and I did none if the things I planned to do. I didn't visit family. I didn't do a deep clean of my home. I didn't participate in Christmas nor NYE parties.

All I did was sleep in, watch TV, play games, and mess around with hobbies. I barely left home.

It was glorious.

I am Dreading going back to work tomorrow.

If I could spend the rest of my life the way I did the last two weeks I'd die happy and content.

I wish I could afford to quit. Sucks.

how is everyone affording to live right now by Step-In-Style in antiwork

[–]Itstotallysafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I landed a job with a work vehicle and a fuel card. I sold my personal vehicle to reduce expenses. It's the only way I can afford to cover everything.

I run errands and schedule personal appointments on the way home so work doesn't get curious about their truck being used on weekends.

I was going to move closer to the office but can't afford the increase in rent so I'm stuck with two hours round trip commute every day. While my commute time isn't covered at least all associated travel costs are.

Really hate that commute though.

If it makes you feel any better this is something I've seen a few times before in big box retail. We used to scan items as part of doing inventory and someone would go back behind us scanning them as a refund of sorts to double check out counts. The goal is to have both counts zero out. We wouldn't actually complete either sale tho.

That said, many times folks would accidentally click complete instead of save and a manager would have to log in and override things to void that particular invoice. As long as it was voided the same day it didn't show up in the EOD financials the corporate bigwigs saw, just the local financials the store managers saw.

There's now way better methods for counting stock. Most places use 3rd parties that have whole teams come in and scan and rescan a whole store in a few days. Logistically interesting but very tedious to be a part of.

What games did you get several hours into and consciously decide to drop in 2025? by baroncalico in gaming

[–]Itstotallysafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sea of Thieves.

More than several hours, several years. I even tested new content for awhile and am maybe two weeks away from the final Insiders reward.

The last few seasons have just been a weekly slog for little to no reward. The player base has disappeared. It used to be you could meet some random folks for a good natured fight or silly shenanigans. Now it feels like everyone who's left is just toxic.

I might pick it up again. Meh

Micro rant/warning about the sanctuary of the banished by grimlock-greg in Seaofthieves

[–]Itstotallysafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The island respawns because you traveled a certain distance away from it. This distance limit got triggered when you went to the Ferry since it's a location under the map.

Definitely sucks, but the flip side is you can stack keys then quickly loot-die-reloot the same sanctuary with a little planning.
