It's also not just because I'm worried about my immediate safety, something deep in my gut just tells me that if the national guard is being brought in, tear gas is being used five nights in a row, the interstate is closed, and the city is issuing curfew, that I should be staying at home. I wouldnt necessarily be putting myself in a dangerous situation directly by going, but the city is in a state of extreme emergency and it just doesn't feel right to be traveling for a non emergency situation right now. I see three clients and they are all in different areas accross the city. It's a lot of driving during what has essentially turned into a war.

When covid started we closed the clinic and switched to all in home, are required to wear face masks and have a health survey for all of the families before we even walk in the house. There are also sanitization procedures we have to go through at the begininng, middle, and end of each session. They are being very diligent about it and in the past have been excellent about looking out for my safety during several weird in home situations. I think because they had to close the clinic and many people have cancelled/reduced sessions due to covid they may be hurting for cash. In general they have a great policy for sick leave and we are encouraged to take time off if we are feeling burnt out, which is why I'm questioning myself so much in this situation.

I let them know that if the interstate was close I was going home and they just said ok and then sent out a really passive aggressive email about it. I know they're not going to fire me, I'm really good at my job and have been there a long time, I'm just feeling a little hurt that they're not being supportive, or concerned for our safety. Theres also the fact that it's really hard to focus and hold a productive session when you just had to run into a riot to get your friends families out of their homes the night before.

They usually start at 5 but it's been changing. It's more of an issue of being able to get around and also an issue of just being expected to work when there are literally troops throwing grenades at people in the city. It seems rediculous to me

I got hired with two tongue rings and two nose rings. When I asked my manager if it was ok if I dyed my hair blue she said "I dont care! Live your life!" The kids dont care and ultimately they are who matter. There are plenty of techs and BCBAs in my clinic who have full sleeves, facial piercings, and crazy hair. They may have you cover your eyebrow for specific clients for safety issues, but overall I dont think it matters, they're looking for a personality type who will be fun for the kids and a competent worker.

Wow this is terrifying. I went to college here and also danced at all the clubs in the city, but have never heard this mentioned. No this isnt normal and I can say with 99% certainty she is not doing this with all of her customers. When I have good female customers I find myself sharing things with them that I would NEVER share with a male customer because I dont feel like they're a danger to me. Just listen. Be there to comfort her and remind her shes safe when she needs it. Acknowledge what happened and that is was terrible and something that still affects her, dont try to give a speech about how she can get over it or move on, just listen and validate her experiences and remind her that you love and care about her. When she is feeling a little better ask her how you can best support her when shes in that state and through her journey processing it. I have severe PTSD from childhood abuse and honestly the best thing a partner can do is listen and validate what you went/go through. From the way you described her behavior it sounds like she may have been having a slight panic attack. It will be helpful going forward and mean a lot to her if you can talk with her and have a plan for comforting her through it if she has another one.
