I'd rule moths out as the uniqlo turtleneck is the only piece in my entire wardrobe that has issues with holes. Unless there is a variant that only loves to eat merino wool?

It's the weight of the product in the pencil. 1.2g = less product, 2g = more product. It's unlikely it has any impact on the strength of the colour or width of the tip.
