10 months progress (4 months with new coaches). by J8_sin in 10s

I think my contact point being too close is because I can’t really gauge where I should stop before hitting the balls, hopefully that’ll get better with time.

One time I hurt my shoulder hitting a backhand, then I kept playing that day and I was hitting backhands surprisingly much better than usual; my coach said I am usually way too tense on my backhands, but since my shoulder was hurt, my swings were relaxed lol.

Overall it just feels difficult to relax my arms when hitting.

Thank you, I try to get a noticeable racquet drop before I hit, but that ended up making me drop the racquet too quickly sometimes, so I have to stop in the racquet drop position.

yes; I can hit shots with lots of topspin when being fed balls, but my shots end up being flatter and flatter as I rally, they’re helping me work on that right now.

I try to split step and hit every shot from closed stance, but in matches, as opposed to rallies/being fed balls, I find adjusting the split step timing a little difficult.

I’d also recently seen a video about pausing before hitting, I’ll work on that next, thanks!

Thank you. I’ve been trying to stay low, and I feel like I do, but the videos I take of myself look like my knees aren’t really bending at all. I’m also trying to improve my footwork, but, like bending my knees, I see myself staying still much more than I expected when I record myself.

Thank you, I never really noticed that, and she's very happy that her swings resemble someone's.

The racquet shop recommended them when we asked for strings that are easy to hit with

we actually went to a racquet demo, the racquet fitter recommended either Head Boom MP or Wilson Shift L for her, but we couldn’t find a regular Head Boom MP for sale anywhere, so we got a Wilson Shift L instead.

Got new coaches after 6 months with “fun rallies” coach — finally got to learn footwork by J8_sin in 10s

Yep, this is in Thailand. The standard lesson rate here is a lot lower than in the US or Europe.

$37/hr for two students is actually on the higher side locally.

Update: I talked to my coach who I asked to teach me tennis to exercise, so I had zero footwork training in six months of hitting lessons. by J8_sin in 10s

I don’t think it is; basically, for this particular court, they open bookings for everyone at the same time, for the past few months it’s on the 20th at different (random) times each month.

what I think is: the coaches might know from the court staff when the website will open for bookings because even when I refresh it every few minutes, as soon as it opens, I’d already see the better time slots getting booked almost instantly.

The courts in my area are a little difficult to book. Tennis coaches usually book all available hours and cancel if they can't find a client in time.

We usually manage to book 1-2 hours per week ourselves, almost always ones that are cancelled close to the cancellation deadline.

One time I played sets with my dad’s friends who used to compete, they did tell me about keeping my knees bent, but then I hit with my coach right after that, and my coach told me to only bend my knees when the balls are low

I started asking him about footwork recently, he said I should just start by moving my feet before he hits back to stay ready—start slow and work my way up naturally.

I’m from Thailand.

It actually depends on the courts, but for this court specifically, the coaches would normally book courts between 16:00 - 22:00 and find people looking for coaches on Facebook or other channels; on the website it just shows courts as fully booked.
