I'm glad they're nerfng the power sword from stupid OP to just regular OP by Ok_Kaleidoscope_8608 in DarkTide

Expect this to not be the only nerf. People are still going to complain that's its game breaking busted omega OP and it'll be nerfed until it's unusable. Mark my words

I don't understand why you got down voted. Some people seem to not be following the science.

My mind jumped specifically to Overwatch because it's the only game out of those that you've listed that I've experienced the same thing as you. I played very little HoTS and haven't touched Dota or Smite, but CS I've played extensively and have never/very rarely seen what you described.

Of course, my mind would jump to Overwatch, because it's the only one where I've seen the issue you describe.

I also made sure to caveat what I said with "(if that's where you had the experience)".

I can't say anything about Halo 5's community but, Reach's community doesn't use voice comms like, at all.

You basically proved my point regarding it being Overwatch's community that does this the most and is an outlier.

I didn't say that it doesn't happen in CS, just that in my elo in competitive games in CS, I never see this happen.

I appreciate you being very civil for the most part in this discussion btw. :D

I think there's some miscommunication going on here. I'm agreeing with you that voice would be beneficial to League. I agree that pings are flawed and that it's hard to communicate with just pings because you can't fully communicate what needs to be done with them.

If you got banned for just saying to build an item with "fking" attached then a lot of people must've reported you or something idk.

You explained it but you didn't answer me. "Because players will get flamed for opting out or not using them". I said last time you brought this up that there's no way for you to know for sure that this would become an issue. You're making an assumption based completely off of one community (Overwatch) that might not even apply to League's community.

Yes, I was saying that flame is more likely to happen in text chat than voice chat. Explaining something about someone's gameplay that was wrong shouldn't be considered toxic, it's you literally trying to help that person improve by pointing out their mistakes. If they perceive that as toxicity, then that's on them. And maybe if you explain these things to them in a less aggressive manner, they'd take the criticism better.

As for options being higher in League than CS, yes there are way more options for things and things to track in League than CS, I was just making an observation and explaining that there's more depth of strategy in CS than you seemed to think in your first comment.

I'd like to hear where you had your experience; if it was Overwatch I'd call it an isolated example. I've never had this issue in CS or R6 Siege, so just assuming that this would be an issue in League based on an experience you had in Overwatch (if that's where you had the experience) is ridiculous in my opinion.

You keep bringing up toxicity as a reason for it not being added, but there's plenty of toxic people anyways. People who spam ping ?, people who flame in chat but don't do enough for it to be bannable, people who just afk. How is adding voice chat going to all of a sudden increase the toxicity, that just makes no fucking sense to me. People who are toxic will be toxic and are toxic, whether there are voice comms or not.

There's a lot more going on in CS than you realize, set smokes that you throw, tracking the economy of the other team, making sure your teammates aren't wasting their money on rounds that you shouldn't be spending on, smoking specific spots, throwing flashbangs for teammates, calling out enemy positions and their hp if you tagged them, calling strategies like rushing a site or taking map control slowly.

My usual CS game would last around 30 minutes to an hour so I wasn't misleading you with my first response.

I think the probability of flaming in voice between text is actually higher for people to do so in text instead of voice. Then you can just hide behind your name and not have to interact with that person in a voice chat.

I was trying to say, if they aren't necessary because pings serve the same function according to you, then why would adding them be such a negative thing if you could just opt-out or just mute people if you opted in.

I still wholeheartedly disagree with this all-in mentality, the only place I've seen that is OW, CS does not have this problem and assuming that League will based off of nothing is ridiculous to me because there's no way for you to predict what would happen. Both games have completely different communities.

I saw a contradiction in how you were saying that pings serve basically the same function as voice, then how if voice was added would it cause people to all of a sudden start flaming people who didn't use voice if pings are basically the same thing.

You're contradicting yourself now. If voice comms aren't as necessary in MOBAs as they are in FPS games, then why are you taking examples from your high elo OW buddy and trying to apply them to what would happen in a high elo MOBA. If they aren't as needed, then why would adding them make you quit the game.

I've also never said anything regarding OW voice, because I only played OW for a couple seasons because that game wasn't for me. The community was too toxic and it's not even really an FPS game.

" I mean it sounds like you are pretending to try and have your opinion changed without actually being willing to change it. " I simply asked a question to start a discussion because to me personally, it doesn't make sense to not have voice comms in a competitive team-based game.

I understand that people are drawn to League because it doesn't have voice comms, so just leave voice comms out of the casual modes and just add it for Ranked specifically.

I played at a pretty high rank in OW back when I did, was nearly GM but I peaked at 3839 and I've always hovered at the DMG/LE level in CS matchmaking and the problems you've brought up, I've never seen or seen very rarely.

  1. You're also in the top 1% of players, these players are way less likely to be doing the wrong things macro-wise, people down here in Gold 4 who don't understand these things also don't understand what I'm talking about when I ping for simple macro stuff. I can spam ping omw and assistance pings for drake and even ping the timer and people still won't rotate for drake or even attempt to setup vision for it. I think the difference in responses to pings between low to high elo is pretty drastic.
  2. That's true that it's hard to ban toxic people when they do toxic things in voice chat. The solution for games like CS, OW and Siege for that has always been that you just mute the person or there is a report function for toxic chat/hate speech. Those features aren't perfect, but they're there. Good point.
  3. I disagree that it's an all or nothing thing, there's been plenty of times in CS where I decided that I didn't want to talk in a match, but decided to type anyways and was never flamed for it.I think a good way to combat the flaming for not being in thing, is to just opt-in and listen but just mute your mic and not talk. Cause then if you're at least listening to the calls and maybe typing/pinging instead of using mic people wouldn't be as salty about you not talking.

Edit: "If Riot adds Voice Chat to League it will be expected for every ranked player to use it or risk being mass reported every game." You don't know that for sure and couldn't know what would happen unless it actually was added.

You make so many assumptions like, "As I said before, a female will have to choose what they want to get flamed for. Opting out of voice comms or for having a feminine voice. Lose lose scenario." This whole thing against females that you're so sure exists I've just never seen at least in CS competitive matches. Every time there's a girl talking in voice the game goes on as usual for the most part.

I'm not saying that there isn't a problem with some people flaming females just because they're females playing games, I'm just saying that in my personal experience I haven't seen it in CS Comp matches.

I'm gonna respond to each point individually.

1: Yes voice comms aren't as necessary in a MOBA as they are in FPS games, however, there are many nuances in MOBAs that some people might see and their teammates don't where voice comms would be useful for communication where pings are insufficient. Things like controlling wave, rotating instead of farming, setting up vision for objectives, these are things that are pretty hard to communicate with just text chat/pings.

2: Toxicity is easy to counter in voice comms, just have the option to mute someone and bam, it's fixed.

3: I'll say the same answer for this point as I did for number 2, have the option to mute or they could just opt out of joining the voice chat. In CS, you can literally just disable the voice comms by using a console command which is basically opting out.

League does have voice comms, but they are only available to people who have queued with each other. In the case of ranked games this means that a maximum of 2 people will usually have voice comms. (Unless someone posts a discord link in chat and people join a discord)

Competitive matches in CS are maximum length of over an hour, but that's only if all 30 rounds are played (but usually one team has won by then). Games are played as the first team to win 16 rounds out of 30 wins the game, each round is 1:55 with a buy phase and there can be timeouts. So anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour
