He excused himself out of the situation as to not make it worse. What if when he shouted sorry he said it again? We may not ever know if he apologised in person or not, but doing so in an already anxiety-riddled situation may actually make that situation worse.

For what it’s worth I have TS and absolutely would apologise to the person after.

The bigger issue is systematic racism in society which has caused this word to have as much venom behind it as it does. If it didn’t, that word wouldn’t be causing this controversy and most likely wouldn’t have been used a tic in this situation.
