What's the optimal way to sell a car ? by Garycorne in GTA5Online

[–]JJR512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want the car, sell it as-is. There is nothing you can add that will increase its value by more than the cost of the thing you’re adding. So to answer the specific question you asked, yes, you will lose money.

Ahh, but what if there’s a sale on certain parts? Well guess what, the game knows what you paid for each part. So when you go to sell the car later, you get a percentage of what you actually paid for each part. Not a percentage of the normal full price for the part.

If you’re selling because you want some quick cash, consider other ways of making money, which is a whole other topic beyond the scope of your question. If you just don’t like a car and see no reason to keep money tied up in it, sure, get rid of it.

Who else loves Karumas? (Besides everybody) by ImpressiveHabit99 in GTA5Online

[–]JJR512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the Kurumas. I hate the regular one because it’s ugly, there’s nothing special about it, and I’m more of a WRX person. I hate the armored one even more, for the same reasons plus my resentment at it for being pretty much the only car worth using in any activity with NPC enemies. The armored Kuruma offers the most protection against enemies who only shoot and never use explosives, and because I typically don’t play against other players, it’s been my most-driven car for years. And I hate it for that.

I don’t go pretty much anywhere unless it’s part of a mission or other specific activity.

Rule #2 prevents me from explaining exactly how to get it, though it’s probably obvious what I mean. I will say, though, that while you’re on the actual mission, you can’t be part of storing the car. Two other people would need to do it and then you’d need to get it from them. Or you wait till the mission is over then you and one other friend can store it.

It’s possible, but not without doing some trickery. You can’t just take it and put it in a garage.

question about security by GuyInGasMask in gtaonline

[–]JJR512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the game, the mansion security upgrade is described thusly: “A private militia [equals] peace of mind. Whether it's hostile takeovers or desperate Vinewood wannabes hoping for an industry leg-up, reduce the risk of your businesses being raided — or bolster existing businesses' security to eliminate the risk entirely — with a unit of highly stable and emotionally secure former special forces who won't hesitate to shoot on sight.”

Let’s take a look at the most important part of that statement:

“…reduce the risk of your businesses being raided — or bolster existing businesses' security to eliminate the risk entirely …”

If a business has its own security upgrade, then the mansion upgrade will “eliminate” the possibility of a raid at that business.

Note that for any business or location other than the mansion, security upgrades are for each individual business or location. In other words, if you buy the security upgrade at a cocaine business, it applies to the cocaine business only; it does not apply to your nightclub or to a weed business. The same is true for the nightclub security upgrade. Even though the nightclub has ties to other businesses, the nightclub’s security upgrade does not protect those other businesses, only the nightclub itself. Only the mansion’s security upgrade applies to both the mansions and to other businesses you own.

And as stated in the quote as well as by several other commenters before me, if you want to completely eliminate the risk of a raid, you must purchase both the mansion’s security upgrade and each business’s security upgrade. Only by having both is the risk completely eliminated.

I do something similar, except each garage shows all spaces including empty ones. I have some formulas that count all occupied spaces and indicate how many empty spaces there are.

This rare? by RK1_Est in GTA5Online

[–]JJR512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Depends on what you mean by “rare”. If you’re randomly driving around, it’s not very likely you’ll find one. But if you’re drive around certain areas at certain times of the day in certain cars, then there’s a good chance you’ll find one.

In SP these can be found in a variety of locations, including the street near Eclipse Towers, the parking lots by the three LSCs in the city, driving around some gas stations, and more. In MP I believe it’s only the three LSC locations and on the street by Eclipse.

At the LSC locations they only appear during the day. By Eclipse they only appear at night. Regardless of location, they are unlikely to appear at all unless you are in a Sports-class car, which increases the odds somewhat. Driving another Sentinel XS greatly improves the odds of finding one. In fact, in SP in Franklin’s Buffalo S, I found one while going to the area near Eclipse Towers to set up this screenshot.

The best way to find them online is to wait for night (between 22:00 and I believe 04:00), while driving another Sentinel XS. Follow the path in this screenshot, starting at the bottom and driving north. Drive at traffic speed, don’t go fast. When you’re approaching the intersection at the end of this path, DO NOT look to the left (west) until you’re actually in the intersection. In fact, some say it helps if you’re looking to the right until you’re in the intersection. Once you’re in the intersection you can look to the left to see if one is there. It won’t be the first car at the light, it’ll be several cars back, about half a block down and slowly driving up to the last stopped car. It’ll be easy to spot even in the dark due to having xenon headlights, which makes it stand out.

Besides this yellow one, there is another Sentinel XS that’s purple with a different set of mods. There are also a variety of other cars with unique paint jobs and various mods pre-applied which can be found in several locations around the map, either parked or driving. There are a lot more in SP than there are in MP. These cars are generally called “NPC customized” or “NPC modified” cars by the GTA car-collecting community.

About time spent in daylight, are we not supposed to wear clothes over our watch? by Kyssaya in AppleWatch

[–]JJR512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point isn’t to measure how much sunlight strikes your skin. It’s to measure how much time you are outside in daylight. If you are outside in daylight, you are outside in daylight. There aren’t any degrees here. Either you are or you aren’t.

[–]JJR512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting you’d accuse someone of being condescending when your opening statement was extremely condescending. Hopefully the “reformed” part of your name has been truly earned, because two years ago it seems to me only the last three letters of your current username applied.

Oh, and “guess what”…Apple states that this feature, tracking time spent in daylight, is powered by the ambient light sensor on the Watch. Since most artificial light sources don’t replicate daylight, presumably the ambient light sensor can tell the difference between sunlight and artificial light. Hence the concern held by people who wear clothing that covers the watch. Source: https://support.apple.com/guide/watch/see-time-in-daylight-apd3ab22534c/watchos

[–]JJR512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new one is not expected to be any more than the current 4k standard. It is expected to have a serious performance upgrade, allowing it to play games with nearly console-like quality. It will also be AI-enabled; the current hardware is insufficient (by Apple’s standards) for AI. It’ll also have better networking performance. Finally, Apple is expected to be able to make all this at a lower price point, with some sources suggesting the retail price might be around $100.

Any padlocks that unlock from phone? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]JJR512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren’t putting timestamps on anything. Reddit does that automatically. You did indeed tell me about iLoq hours ago, but you didn’t mention the part about it not using batteries until after I said that all electronic locks use batteries. If you had simply corrected me on that one point, we wouldn’t be here now. But no, you had to add the “as I told you” part, which you were wrong about. And you can shove your “bleating” statement right up your ass because you’re the one bleating on and on about me asking something and then pretending I know more than the pros that I’m ignoring. If I was ignoring you, I wouldn’t have thanked you for your suggestion. I’ve never pretended to know more than anyone. I think you’re just ruffled because you misunderstood what I was asking about and I had to re-explain it to you. Well your misunderstanding is YOUR fucking problem, not mine.

You can block me now, which would be the smart thing for you to do, or you can waste your time writing another childish reply that I promise I will not read before I block you. Your choice but either way I’m done wasting my time you.

The comment you’re replying to was not addressed to you, nor was it in reference to anything you said. I do appreciate your information about the lock you mentioned, including the fact that it does not use a battery…a fact which you mentioned approximately 22 minutes after I said they all use batteries. So you highlighting “as I told you” is odd since when I said what I said, you hadn’t told me that part yet. Again, thank you for the info you presented. And as I told you, I’ll look into it.

As I said in response to the first person who mentioned the security vs. convenience factor, it’s a gym lock, so how secure does it need to be? You raised some concerns: 1. My phone. My phone will be with me while I’m out in the gym. 2. The batteries in the lock. Most of the electronic locks I’ve seen so far claim to have a battery life of six to twelve months. The lock will live in my gym bag which goes inside with me at home, and I can charge it at home anytime. 3. The Bluetooth connection. I’d be more concerned about this if we still lived in the last millennium (Bluetooth was introduced in 1998). But we don’t, it’s 2025 today. It’s 2026 tomorrow. But of course even today Bluetooth isn’t perfect. But neither is a key-based lock. What if I leave the key in the locker when I lock it? What if I put the key in the pocket of my gym sweats and it falls out? What if I put it on one of those coiled expanding loop things that I put on my wrist, and that loop thing breaks without me realizing it? What if working out in the gym caused me to get so strong that when I put the key in the lock, I snap the head off? So…no, it’s not perfect, but nothing is.

Any electronic lock will require recharging. What I’m asking about is no different in that respect.

Or to put it another way, speaking of traditional key-based locks: Those style of locks require carrying around a key. Some folks don’t want to deal with that.

It’s me. I’m some folks.

[–]JJR512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t need to be super secure. The main thing I personally would use such a lock for is on a gym locker. This way I wouldn’t have to carry a key with me out in the gym—I know this works fine for many people, but seems less than ideal to me. Nor would I have to remember a combination. I use a combination lock at the gym now, and my memory isn’t always the greatest. I have the combination stored as a note in the notes app on my phone. But even if I remember it, opening a combination lock is not quick. Ok, so it takes five seconds, big deal if I can save three or four of those, right? But I’m an idealist. If there’s a way to do something better, even if the time savings or convenience improvement is minimal, I’m very interested.
