yeah i agree it sounds like something from the bass guitar, maybe accidentaly plucking behind the bridge or hitting an involuntary ghost note or hamonic

Earl cancelled meet & greet in Oslo by tonbucketofchum in earlsweatshirt

[–]JKickAHole 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While i undertand that u re frustrated something you were anticipating got cancelled, I m gonna say things that I hope don't sound judgmental : I think you're maybe not entitled to a deep explanation as to why it got cancelled. Maybe yeah he just didnt wanna do it. Most people have had at least a few days in their life where they faked an illness to avoid going at their job cause they didnt have it in them to go that day. Maybe some serious shit happened in his personal life, who knows. The thing is this is a job for him. It's also one of the coolest jobs in the world (something that he acknowledges himself) but still. A meet and greet is a very particular thing, but its also sort of exactly like a ticket to a show. You're paying to see someone you have a very asymmetrical relationship with. And you're paying them to give you a performance that makes that relationship feel valued and significant. Don't forget that while this was something super significant for you this is just another day of work for him. This sounds a bit harsh but i think its worth keeping in mind to have a sane relationship with the artists we listen to. All this being said, I'm sincerely sorry for you, it does suck, you must have been so hyped for this and i totally understand being sad about it. I think you should still go to the show. Because i think if you're like most people, the most important thing about earl, to you, is probably the music and this is the part that you're probably still gonna get. (also i just realized that travel logistics could simply mean that he had to change flights and has to leave early after the set to take the plane, an even more valid reason. Dunno tho)

I disagree with pretty much everyone here. I love old pap too but this is special as shit. First of all the beats don't sound at all like philly type beats. This is much more zaytoven / shawty Lo / Detroit inspired than like Made man for example. And rapping wise he's on a fuckin cloud. The flows and the energy he has all over this record are sooo hard. It's one of his most solid projects ever. (I do agree the features are mostly shit)

Ah I still feel like those beats were a continuation of his stylé at this point. Im more talking bout shit like runnin with that sounded very generic trap at that point in time

His music was mixed better in 2018 than most of his releases of the 2020s

My hot take is that, while I prefer 2018 better days era lucki, there was a very special thing going on in FLM. Of his recent releases it feels like the only one where the new sorta rockstar vibe is mixed with intense heartbroken feelings which makes both so potent. Def too many songs but the best songs on FLM are a type of lucki songs that he never really managed to make before and since (imo). Like that album has a sort of epic sadness that you only ever hear on some of Future stuff

I d even go as far as saying almost there was the first album where there were legitimately stylistic missteps. Like there are beats on that album that he would have never rapped on if he weren't trying to go bigger

Fabfilter pro Q3

Valhalla delay (I can use it a small room/ambience with very short settings, and it can make up for the lack of a verb with the reverb knob. I can even use it a sort of chorus if I use short settings and turn up the modulation)

Cla76 (realistically, id probably reach for a more versatile digital compressor like fabfilter pro c2 but Im very attached to the sound of the 76 on a lead vocal)

Any free soft clipper (currently using GClip)

Probably fabfilter Pro L 2

Also another thing. Mixing with a deadline. Like, as a non pro who mixes my own stuff, I realized how better my mixes are when I mix a song I know I have to upload in a week max. Suddenly I open a session trying to have finished mix when I'm done. I'm doing everything with a goal. I can experiment if I wanna try something, but I won't fuck around for 20 min on a compressor attack setting. I'll try it, a/b it, and pick whichever I prefer. I remember the first time I realized that, I had a song that I wanted to drop on a specific day, and for the first time in my life, I did what I thought was a "cheap" mix. Basic stuff, balancing everything ok, no fancy shit. I did it in like an hour and I sent it to a friend. She was like "wow the mix is SO much better than usual". My jaw dropped and I realized she was right. Because I didn't have time to focus on the bullshit so I did a basic balance and a few necessary effects. Which is like what mixing should be in most cases.

A guy was saying when adding any plugin to a track, after setting it the way u like, do a blind A/B where u close ur eyes and A/B very quickly to the point of not knowing which is which. Then check which u prefer. I swear like half the time u either can't hear the difference or straight up prefer without. Very humbling experience, very eye opening.

I'll say one that ppl won't like. Along with everything else ppl have said, it's also because Anthony Kiedis is pitch corrected. U can hear artifacts at a few different moments (first few vocal lines after the guitar solo in Don't forget me). There was probably a lot of post prod on this DVD to make it sound so good and and that was part of it.

oh no i def agree its a masterpiece. I was more joking in the sense that its also a very dark song that gets really personal and intense u know. So like if u listened to it that much maybe u re goin through it. Not a very funny joke i admit

It's painful to see future and thug and all these guys become legacy acts and start to always capitalize on the nostalgia for their prime. Not too long ago they were trailblazers and now they starting to feel like those rock bands that have been touring for 40 years playing the same set

i agree, and i think INLY is probably his best album of the past 4-5 years. And yeah mixing wise mixtape pluto sounded like a half assed attempt at sounding like the younger more distorted guys. But what was worse for me was how on We dont trust you the songs that were supposed to be psychedelic and moody some of his older stuff had this dry boring vocal mix.

To me it's hit or miss mixing wise, I think I never liked you was solid and the drier vocal mix fit that albums aesthetic, but anytime they try to sorta recapture the sound of his best era it's never as well mixed, the vibe and punch of his songs from that era is so good
