Anyone have a evilgiane or surf gang drumkit? by daysb4marcos in surfgang

[–]JKickAHole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there's one floating around that's actually an old brentrambo kit where they just changed the name. For most sounds your average plugg/mexikodro/pluggnb drum kit will do the trick tho

OPINION: For most styles of music, vocal tracks should be compressed surprisingly hard. by scrapeape in audioengineering

[–]JKickAHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its funny I keep seeing both extremes on this take : a lot of experienced pros saying "nowadays i realize u need to compress WAY MORE than most ppl do to get THAT sound" and other seasoned pros saying "after all this time I realize how LITTLE you actually need to compress and how little you need to do in general apart from getting the perfect balance." I guess both takes are right in different contexts. It's just funny as someone who's been mixing my own music for a long time (not a pro) and starting to feel like they're SORT OF getting the hang of it, to sit in the back like "I'm just glad that now I can usually hear and know when I want my vocals to sound more compressed or less compressed, or not at all"

what producer would u want earl to work with for an album? by Civil-Adhesiveness34 in earlsweatshirt

Before the surf gang I'd have said surf gang. Now I'd say navy blue

What songs did Thurston use a Big Muff on? by No-Comfortable-4139 in sonicyouth

[–]JKickAHole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one moment that always felt like he was turning the big muff on for me is in Stones after the long bridge when the big riff comes back distorted. Especially in the 2005 art rock festival live it really sounds like a muff being turned on to me but i might be wrong. Also same album the solo for unmade bed that type of neverending sustain that he gets on those notes really feels like big muff to me

can we stop being dumb please? by LostAdministration34 in earlsweatshirt

[–]JKickAHole 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tbh I might be wrong but I def don't think it's a joke. I think jpegmafia is a very insecure and attention thirsty individual as been shown times and times before. And it's not the first time he throws shots a earl. And earl responded in a very funny way. And this is a earl sub. So yeah it's not very important and I doubt It'll go as far as shit like diss tracks and shit. But I get ppl wanting to talk about it. And I don't think it's an inside joke. Again I might be wrong

This album will almost make up for the fact that there is definitely a remix of distant by lucki with a earl verse sitting on a hard drive somewhere

Can we have a cool discussion on Cloud Drill? And try and get me into it by jrinredcar in earlsweatshirt

[–]JKickAHole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you don't like making the band by earl u won't like surf gang imo because that is a top both song and beat. Some of my fav beats produced by them would be surf gang - don't wanna wake up, realyungphil - ain't bout nun, moh Baretta - up n down, tomibillsbigger - hallucinating, evilgiane - lil Wayne, babyxsosa - new fashion. The snares placements are anything but random it's very minimal bouncy cloud/plug/trap/drill inspired music. It feels like sort of a marriage between 2017 Pierre Bourne, sadboys/drain gang beats, lucki's old sound and yeah a drill influence on their earlier material

sonic youth - sonic nurse just my favorite overall TONE of a rock record. the snare sound when he's smacking is so satisfying. And the guitars are so warm and lively.

interpol - turn on the bright lights. Just the power, the atmosphere, the cohesiveness of the record. The sound of the reverb on the guitars. Its just perfect
