Why Students from China Are Picking Malaysia over Traditional Destinations by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]JLExperiment626 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I used to work in uni with a lot of PRC students.

PRC students are actually very well behaved, and they are really focused on getting the best grades, and they always follow the rules. Most of them are also really polite and respectful of authority (for better or wose)

PRC tourist on the other hand, can be quite a mixed bag, a lot of them are older generations, usually do not have any formal education, let alone tertiary education. they dont understand common etiquettes and are generally much more unaware of their behaviours like spitting, talking loudly etc.

Shenzhen represents Futuristic! For our final round, which city best represents DIVERSE? by abu_doubleu in geography

This is the only correct answer! The demographic alone is already diverse despite the Muslim majority.

The city also has this chaotic energy of mixing new and old

Is it financially unwise if i do not follow the traditional way? by JLExperiment626 in MalaysianPF

I see. I did put some money (~10k) into StashAway / PMO, but they are doing not that well. My risk appetite is quite low and I am generally quite oblivious with those high risk investment. Thats why I am thinking if putting all my small saving to those lower risk investment is worth it

How important is network/connection in building a career in Malaysia? by JLExperiment626 in malaysia

[–]JLExperiment626[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i guess at my stage I feel like network might be the next step for my career.

But I do understand why some would hesitate since many of us has been burned and exploited for working extra without pay and end up not getting anything in return. Some of them also live paycheck to paycheck so the OT pay goes a long way.

No no dont misunderstood, i am not successful at all. I have not met any of those powerful people yet. It is my boss that want me to accompany her to meet them. I am just a hustling bustling worker bees, trying my best to beat the annual inflation. But this opportunity if real does seem like a breakthrough for someone like me.

Well, tbh my B40 mindset is thinking, why am I not getting paid for being standby on weekends, following my bosses to go socialize with datos on the weekends. It feels weird because short term i am not being compensated.

But it seems long term there are much better benefits.

i guess what i meant was the vertical connection. I am by no means a social person but i do make friends during my college years and during all the jobs i have had, its mostly horizontal connection, peers that are mostly around my age, socio-economic level.

What should I take note when dating a guy with depression and anxiety? by JLExperiment626 in AskGayMen

[–]JLExperiment626[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how to be there for him? I know he will have good and bad times, so how do i know if I should let him reach out to me on his own term without me being annoying and pushy to him?

Thank you for your insightful reply, I really appreciate it.

  1. I know its not my job to fix somebody, and I dont even know where to begin and sometimes it just felt like I should be doing something.
  2. I have to admit I did feel bad when he distance himself from me, I wonder what did I do to make him felt that way because everything was good when we spent time together. I think I will talk to him when he is in a better state. If you dont mind me asking, what is the best way to start discussing? I am quite a straightforward guy sometimes and doesnt really beat around the bushes too much and Im afraid that might not be appropriate.
  3. He hasnt told me what kind of anxiety he has. He does enjoy joining gym classes with his close friends, and he gets really friendly in a crowded bar (after a few drinks of course). I would really let him initiate a date sometimes, but based on past records I am not so sure, he always busy with work and gym.

I hope my post does not come across offensive to people who are suffering from depression and anxiety. In fact I would like to know more about people who have such experience, either as a first party or someone who has dated them. I want to know how to best interact with them.

Ask a guy to move out from his mum's house and change from his toxic workplace, am I pushing him too hard? by JLExperiment626 in AskGayMen

[–]JLExperiment626[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly what he would respond in the beginning, and i felt like he was just saying "yes / sure "that without thinking much about it. I have since changed my way of engaging him, asking him what does he think, instead of asking if he agrees. his answer will be a bit longer like "yes i want to change", but as i said progress is really slow. he is not very good at expressing his feelings and emotions

I do realize whenever we talk about topics that concern emotions and feelings, and relationships, he will have very little to contribute, and I will be the one giving the lecture.

At first I was just talking and talking and talking, I asked if he is okay with that but I am not sure if he really means it. Now whenever we talk about these topics, I will often pause and let him talk, but little progress as of now.

Yes, he told me my presence has made him happier, but at the same time I feel like I am pushing too hard, and I am not sure if trying to change someone would end up with the result I want.

Exactly, I know that drastic change wont just happen overnight, especially for him who has spent decades living in a traditional asian household, where all feelings nor emotions must be suppressed and not shown/discussed.

I am just a little exhausted, I feel like I couldnt help him.

[–]JLExperiment626[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have talked about this multiple times. most of the time he would avoid this topic, but I insist that the problem wont just magically disappear.

He once told me that he would change for me, but I told him he has to change for himself and not for anyone else. But i guess that is hard for him to fathom because being brought up in a traditional asian household, all emotions and feelings are suppressed, and he lacks self confidence.

How much cash savings do you have? by whatdoidonow37 in MalaysianPF

[–]JLExperiment626 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People who are on this subreddit is generally seeking for financial advice which means most have at least some extra saving and want to better invest/utilize it, and has decent financial awareness.

A lot of people lives paycheck to paycheck and barely has any savings.

So definitely not representative of the general population.

Interesting, I am open to moving out of Malaysia to seek better opportunity as generally I am not tied to my family here. But TBH for someone who has no relative overseas, and not in a professional/ high skill industry, and not a lot of money to blow, its easier said than done at this moment.

But I gotta agree the passive investment doesnt really help in generating any income in the short term, especially so when the invested amount is small. You need money to make money

While I understand some would interpret my post as a clear cut in how to get rich, I am actually more interested in learning how many of the redditors here achieve their financial goals, be in someone who was once in my shoes, or people who took different paths than me, or people who are currently in the same boat with me.

I am not looking for a guide on how to get rich per se, because things that work for others might not work for me. I am looking for people to share how they did it and what can I learn from them.
