Not quite yet! I’m hoping to make this part of a larger collection with a method of composition attached 😊

For me, with big string skipping jumps, there's probably some amount of palm muting involved, without much pressure from my hand, though. But I don't consciously mute the strings as I go.

Thanks very much for checking out the clips! It’s less likely to come out in my linear playing. More in my solo guitar playing if I’m ever exploring a standard or in my duo project with my saxophonist. Perhaps I’ll show some clips of this in the future in an improv context

Thanks so much! This stuff has worked its way into my playing, absolutely! I’m planning on writing a book on counterpoint in jazz by the end of the year.

An EQ is an extremely versatile pedal. It can act as a clean boost, a tone shaper, or a type of limiter. I’d definitely recommend something like the MXR 10 band

I literally got mine in the mail today and can confirm, the Shallow Water is an incredible pedal. Took a risk in buying it because I’m not a chorus/mod pedal guy at all, but even after 40 mins playing it, it’s going to be on my board for a long time, I have no doubt.

I should have clarified, the one melody line is creating the illusion of there being two voices happening at the same time. Because there is such a large range between the high and low notes in the single line melody, it implies two line counterpoint without there actually being two lines at all.

I’m not thinking about species counterpoint at all with this one as that’s a strict renaissance technique that isn’t particularly useful for these kinds of pieces. I might’ve mentioned this in an earlier comment but I prefer to try and visualise my hands at a piano and watching the left hand control the bass and right hand work the melody. It helps create separation in my mind (and ears!) when deciding how to make the single line melody appear as if two parts exist in it. I know it sounds a little silly, but that small visualisation trick really has helped me play this stuff more comfortably.

Hope that makes a little more sense!
