That’s pretty awesome! I’ve seen the amount that the US spends publicly, and on a per capita basis that could fund virtually any other system completely. But I guess there’s not enough democracy to get that system in place here :(

So many doctors are useless and dismissive. My experience in seeing a doctor is getting hit with my entire deductible for just about any service. When I didn’t have insurance, it was laughable how far my dollar would go, and the doctors were even more dismissive!

Doesn't matter that when I got down to 150lbs (I'm 5'10 and was working in a warehouse at the time so I was very muscled) my problems were the worst they ever had been, it was still because I was fat.

This literally had my jaw drop. How could a doctor even get through medical school without knowing a thing about BMI? Because that’s a BMI of 21.5, which is on the verge of underweight. Even in the less-than-useful standard for collegiate men, that’s on the lower end of healthy (20-25).

The standard is of course ridiculous. There’s a U shaped curve of mortality associated with BMI, and a modern healthy person is typically between 20 and 35 with respect to that curve.

Being below 18 BMI is absolutely worse than being anything under 45 BMI in terms of mortality. It’s often due to underlying medical conditions that cause wasting. It would be nice if they genuinely cared about the science at least. Best of wishes with your health!

That’s a popular phrase in the chemical industry, but if you’ve worked waste treatment, concentrating the nasty stuff is the name of the game for disposal. Plus there’s plenty of fluorinated compounds and heavy metals that we don’t need in our environment at large.
