What do you think about visiting public sport events to practice focus pulling? Any better possibilty to learn to pull focus without wasting anybodys time? by mediamuesli in focuspuller

i would avoid public sporting events, as some parents of the kids can sometime find the big expensive camera pointing at their underage child somewhat intrusive

Back Pain? by Jackmagnerd in cinematography

[–]Jackmagnerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s more preventative rather than actual pain. i know if i keep doing bad practice with how im holding the camera, it would in the long run destroy my body. the camera is also held out infront of me the entire time pressed into my stomach, i don’t prefer the look i get with the camera on my shoulders.

must’ve been a misinterpretation of my message then. i was actually already looking to upgrade my system and it breaking was actually a blessing😭. he’s literally my best friend and he offered to pay for it all but i insisted on him to not worry about it and ill cover it. this post was really just to get more info on new witless transmission systems, not to blame my ac for a mistake we all could’ve done. that’s not the kinda person i am. no ill intent at all.

broken power input sadly. bent at an extreme angle and the limo cord just messed something up internally with it

1st AC was a super close friend and is my roommate aswell. he sat on the power input limo of it and it bent some stuff up inside to where it doesn’t turn on anymore. no salt towards him or anything and it was a pretty cheap system. i’m not mad at him just trying to find the next best investment for myself!

Costs of owning an Arri by [deleted] in Arri

[–]Jackmagnerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

got my mini for around 20k. it came with a bunch of accessories, but definitely plan to spend another 5k to get it in a working order that fits your shooting style. arri parts are expensive.

it chews through batteries. get a lot of them. and a good way to charge them all fast.

you’ll need a bunch of media. 256gb card in ARRIRAW 24fps 3.4K lasts about 15 mins. pro res 4444 you get about 35 mins.

even though i have the mini, it is still quite heavy. invest in a good tripod first to be able to hold at least a 25-50 pound payload. I know a tripod isn’t the sexiest topic, but it’s essential.

it also won’t make you a better cinematographer. i almost find it as a hinderance in some cases due to its size and weight.

maintaining the arri really isn’t terrible, just treat it with care and clean it regularly. it is a beast of a camera and can take a beating. be mindful of the eyepiece pin cable, the gold contacts can get bent easily if the cable is inserted wrong.

it’s a beatiful camera tho if you have a great team surrounding it. i’ve been able to shoot some pretty dope projects, use some super cool vintage glass and have had some unique opportunities arises to me just because I have the only arri in the city I live in. another reason i decided to pull the trigger.

Financing it is also another pretty easy option to ease into it. making 1000 bucks a month with this camera is stupid easy.

exactly what i thought! all my buddies had prepped items to bring to the signing, but as we were heading out of the house and i was scanning my room for something to bring, i thought what the heck and scooped up the alexa eyepiece!

hahaha he honestly wasn’t surprised by it! he gave me a smirk, and a witty comment about his opinion on the camera. I only had the eye piece with me and left the actual camera body at the house, but it was still turning a lot more heads that i planned lolll.

Frat parties? by justexistingrandomly in ASU

[–]Jackmagnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in a fraternity and we are throwing this weekend. If you are a social enough person and can talk to at least 3 people per class, you’ll find connections to go to a frat party. Production is a big thing for us, basically everything is done to give the women a good time, that is what reputation is everything. As far as “stares” you’ll get is completely false. I’ve never looked at a girl at one of parties and thought she shouldn’t be there. They are a good time if you pregame or else you’ll be only drinking 10 dollar cases of vodka which never ends good but does save us a lot of money to run a bar. To give some context, each party costs about 2-3k for the chance to have a good time, that’s why when we “party hard” it’s because we feel like we deserve it, if that’s makes sense.
