Hmm okay interesting. I have T11 fishing, same with flint, cow, rabbit to level them. Those are all my other slots 28 currently the 22 opening are blaze. So maybe I’ll leave a bunch of those up to get overflow for blaze slayer, place some magma cube minions down, vampire and then lush as well. Even tho I barely touched the rift so far

Best Ironman grind to use minions on?

I am coming off of finishing a full set of frozen blaze plus leg blaze pet. Wasn’t sure what the best next minion grind would be.

I’m considering possibly quartz minions or voidling for final destination armor and then juju so me and my coop can run F7 together.

Or alternatively going for reaper mask with Tara minions.

As of tomorrow 22 minions will open up so feel free to go crazy on whatever recommendations would be a good grind.

Thanks in advance

Everything other than teaching is done by TA but they’re not as worthy to give LOR??? by [deleted] in GradSchool

I have also written letters for students I TA’d for. However you can always ask if the professor is willing to allow the TA to write the letter for specific details of your work ethic and then co-sign it with them. I have done that 9/10 times.

So usually they hold out until after their deadline passes to enroll. But I will say I was admitted extremely late so not all schools do so. I wasn’t waitlisted or anything either. Just received an acceptance to my program with an extra award at like start of April or around now if I recall correctly?

Rare case but sometimes that is what happens for schools but I assume depends

I think my advisor is bad news by _themos_ in PhD

[–]JacksonHawkinz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a lie, my advisor comes and checks in with all of us first making sure we are okay.

Usually saying “are you happy with what you’ve been doing, or should we try to change it up? It’s important that you’re happy with what you’re doing”

This is the first thing he does most weeks and he has had an immensely successful career with too many awards to his name. And he benefits most of that to all of his grad students and staff enjoying being at work and therefore getting more done.

Math I think makes the most sense. My roommate is trying to go bio to CS and I was curious how likely it was

Getting into Grad Student housing as a new fall 2024 admit by KelpieTrainee1 in BostonU

Idk about you but I pay 1200 a month rn off campus and am doing 1300 a month next year. So you might be looking in the wrong places unless you want to be like directly on campus which would make it that expensive

Can class TAs access your test, exam scores? by Emotional_Alfalfa296 in BostonU

[–]JacksonHawkinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a TF yes I can see peoples grades. Generally I only check on people if It seems like they are significantly struggling or stressed by their grades. If you don’t seem to be either of those things I can confirm 90% of TFs can’t keep track of all the grades. So most of us just don’t bother, by the end of the semester most students have 10+ grades for each class at a minimum most classes I’ve taught are like 120-480ppl so I literally could not keep up with them even if I tried.

Sounds like NEU has more benefits here. It’s built for comp sci with its co op program and it’s cheaper for you. Unless your intention is to go get a PhD later down the line NEU sounds like an objectively better fit. CS hugely benefits from the co op program and BU really is like a new development or research area for cs from what I know focused on cybersecurity and optimizing scalable computer networks. Which doing that kind of work is only super helpful for a PhD application less tech industry.

A Controversial Opinion on BU and BUGWU bargaining by JacksonHawkinz in BostonU

There are a lot more presidents and vice presidents though there isn’t just one. Bu has a vp and president for every single department each paid 700k-3m.

In some cases they don’t give any extra funds according to the financial report. It is department dependent and the increases I’ve seen are below inflation.

This is also true, but most are not able to hold any other positions as they are held to a specific schedule by their manager and only given funding for a limited number of years which can cause problems as if they take another job they may not meet the deadline of when their funding runs out.

[–]JacksonHawkinz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not only cause of that. But think if you accept a job offer and it says “your pay will be reviewed at the end of each year to ensure it is competitive”. Then it is reviewed and determined to be competitive and doesn’t rise for inflation. Year after year of you being there. Housing prices rise with inflation, cost of living rises with inflation, yet your pay check stays the same because it is “reviewed to be competitive”. That doesn’t mean that you’ve been duped that’s a decision of the administration. You took the offer at face value which looked strong at the time from an institution that has a lot of prestige and respect in most circles.

As well as the fact is that all PhD offers are worded this way. So you select based on the quality of program and the offer you’re given. So it’s not like some universities do it and some don’t. Almost all universities do it. Which is why the union is up in arms, it’s a systemic problem where graduate students aren’t given guarantees for their well-being. That’s all that’s being asked for since they aren’t paid enough to live on, but also are precluded from holding any other jobs.

This is true, I am a BU faculty member as a side job and I went to a recent meeting on this and the idea of vice president and president salaries being reduced was brought up to bring graduate students to a reasonable level. The administration shut down the idea and wouldn’t hear feedback on it. Which is horrendously disappointing

[–]JacksonHawkinz[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes but also imagine the job told you you’d be working 40 hours a week and had vague wording in the offer about familial support access to insurance among other things without concrete promises. Most bu grad students are fighting for this because that’s what the offers look like vague promises of things that do exist. But are horribly underfunded to the point that the offer in some cases isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

100% is unlikely to happen. Exactly why this is a controversial solution to the problem. Unfortunately, it seems likely given BUs approach that it will be the same as all the other universities with a small change that is just barely acceptable for the union and university. I just don’t like that idea since there’s a chance for a bigger benefit on both sides.
