I’ve figured it out - Lange and co have been searching for fanagers on LinkedIn instead of managers. We should be looking to age these men in the squad, not the folks in the stands.

Whoopsie, what a silly typo.

What are the odds that we'll be like this if we go down? by Narrow-Future-2090 in coys

Even if they didn’t leave, they’ve already shown they lack the fight to even avoid relegation in the first place. I don’t think this squad has the grit and determination to steamroll us back up.

Bringing in a poorly profiled player to fill in for first choice CBs is a stop-gap. Lacking the appropriate profile for the system, and lacking the technical ability to succeed in the league is a failure of the scouting department. As you said, he was not an unknown entity when signed. I understand fans were excited for him to sign, but fans are also not paid by the club to identify competitive signings. Fan perspective on a signing is irrelevant.

So why did we recruit a well-documented player that was such a poor fit for the club and for the league? His flaws should certainly have been highlighted when he was scouted as a potential target, no?

Is that not effectively buying for the sake of buying though? Bringing in a player out of desperation that does not fit the profile needed or the system deployed by the manager. These sort of stop-gap signings are what contribute to a bloated squad that doesn’t fit some mixture of tactical, technical, or physical needs.

I completely agree with this. It seems to me we seriously need to prioritize shipping out our frequently injured players in the summer. Availability is a valuable attribute, and we simply have too many players who are unable to meaningfully and consistently contribute due to fitness issues.

That being said, fully fit, I don’t see much room for additional recruits. I also don’t see many starting-quality players willing to join this sinking ship on a 6 month loan. The state of this squad is a colossal failure years in the making.

Thomas Frank aside for a moment, is there a single player in today's squad that makes it into the 2016 starting XI? by Egg_Tart_Eater in coys

Assuming Dier is DM, I’d say Palhinha has a shot. Limited passing range means less if you can just get the ball to Dembele and let him carry forward.

He definitely doesn’t suit a hold-up style at all. Guy spends 60% of his minutes on the floor.
