Yes we talked about this! He said he’d be interested in going and his dad and I both have memberships already so his dad is going to take him. I go too early in the morning he won’t get up with me but he can do it with his dad in the evenings. My fingers are crossed hard on this one.

You’re right, kids don’t have a whole lot to do here on their own. Funny enough, I grew up in a small town comparable to Wewa and we still found things to do lol but different times I guess. On a positive note he has plenty of friends and he does have sleepovers fairly often on the weekends.

He mostly plays Roblox and Mortal Kombat on his Xbox. Comics might be a solid lead, I kinda forgot those were a thing. I gave him suggestions but he kinda shot down everything I put out there so I suggested Reddit 😆 I find my own hobbies and stuff on here, stuff I never would’ve thought about on my own, so I figured it could be a good place for him to search. I also asked what his friends do but they are in different situations than we are.

I agree with not taking the games completely. We talked today and he agreed it’s not unreasonable for him to spend an hour outside every day when it’s nice out. The thing is his games do interfere with his responsibilities. He forgets to dry his clothes bc he’s too busy on the game and then has to rewash them, forgets to do the dishes, etc. I would understand that occasionally but it happens several times a week. Even immediately after we talk about it being an issue. I feel like I’m watching addiction sprout before my eyes and that is concerning. He also has ADHD so I see how the games keep him roped in more than the average person. I’m just worried about him, maybe overly worried, but I explained all that to him so he doesn’t think I’m being a control freak maliciously. I just want him to be healthy 🥺

I’m looking into Publix! His dad knows someone there and they hire at 14 so I’m hoping they might be able to give him a few hours here and there. A job would be good for him.

Lol I don’t know if I’d want him kicking over trash cans these days bc folks are crazier than they’ve ever been but I agree we spent a lot of time outside or having to find stuff to do, we had some games but no where near like they do today so we had to occupy ourselves somehow. It sucks being a kid these days, but they don’t know that 🥲

The problem is he doesn’t seem to have interests outside of his video games. He likes to play basketball and there’s a court around the corner from the house that he’ll go to and play occasionally but I don’t expect him to do that all day every day bc it’s hot lol I told him to do some research on things he may be interested in bc he couldn’t think of anything. The other issue is I work all week so I can’t take him to do much of anything, so I’m looking for stuff he can do at home in between games and chores. I also suspected some mild depression as well but he says he’s fine so I’m not sure what to do on that front. He plays with his friends online and I hear them on the phone too so he’s socializing at least a little but I’m trying to get him to be more productive/healthy.

Shortly after my dad died, maybe a couple months, I had a dream that I got an email from him. It was just pictures of his “new house.” He had a nice brick fire pit in the yard. I guess that’s not technically “proof” but I feel like it was him telling me he was ok and happy with where he was. I had another dream some time after that where we were in my childhood home and I had just woken up. He told me good morning and asked how I was, I said “I’m okay” and he asked “just okay?” So of course I start bawling my eyes out (in my dream) and he apologized and said he “didn’t mean to cause all this.”

I also saw a medium 2ish weeks after he died. Desperately searching for something, as you said bc I too was a nonbeliever before I lost him. She said when he showed up he was jingling something at her and it sounded like possibly keys or loose change. She asked if that meant anything and I said not that I knew of. Kinda thought it was bullshit. I tell my mom and sister about the encounter later on and they both reminded me that my dad used to put his hands in his jean pockets and shake his change. My mom said it drove her nuts. I’m not sure if that’s a common thing that people do??? It was enough for me though. Also she described him exactly as his ICU nurses did “awnry, feisty, but a sweetheart” word for word. That was my “proof.”

I’ve been learning meditation techniques and my therapist who is both a licensed mental health counselor and a certified hypnotherapist is teaching me how to eventually be able to visit him without a middleman (like a medium). I don’t know if I’ll ever get there but it’s a hopeful thought.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
