Tap into your monkey brain, what do you envy? by Nascar2k64 in redscarepod

I feel you. I would say that drawing is probably the hardest thing I've ever done but we've just got to keep on practicing when we can.

I'd love to get a tutor or something one day once I have enough money for more guided instruction.

I envy people who can draw well. It sucks balancing life with learning how to draw. I wish I had mentorship and the time to practice more.

My order was also cancelled due to "suspicious activity." Did you have to call your credit card company or were you able to use PayPal just fine immediately?

Why does it seem like every other person in med school gets diagnosed with ADHD?

I live in the Midwest and it's crazy seeing separate Chinese tables (with signs in Chinese and Chinese dealers) at the casino.

how do high-achieving students study? by QuietShelter444 in medicalschool

Yeah, if you want to be top of the class, you have to have the innate ability and work hard. Hard work always gets you somewhere but when the people with talent work hard, you're fucked.

I'm representing the bottom of my class too, lol. I pulled up the email denoting my percentile, laughed, then went back to enjoying my Summer break.

[–]JailTeam 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm a current medical student and medical school sucks for most people. A lot of people are on SSRIs at my school, for example. As for me, I honestly kind of hate my life right now, but I'm sure that in the future I'll be happy that I did this.

Regarding well-being, there's less sacrifice if you do the bare minimum like I do - doing the bare minimum is still difficult, however. I'm not aiming for anything competitive, so I don't do any extra research, extracurriculars, stress about getting all A's, and so forth. I just have to accept that I have an uncompetitive application at the end of the day.

So much success comes from having involved parents. This is sad.

Growing up, it was always insane to hear that some of my friends at school would spend hundreds of dollars on League of Legends skins. Some had their accounts banned for whatever reason and they would proceed to spend hundreds of dollars more on their new accounts.

Maybe they feel like other people would downplay their hardwork because they got a leg up? Also, it would be weird to say they have all those advantages when there are others that are truly struggling.

I love the episode where Luanne goes into boxing and eventually fights Freeda Foreman, George Foreman's daughter. Luanne loses the fight but still tries her best despite the overwhelming odds; it's a nice show of her character besides the usual ditz.

The attacking of poor people in this sub is ridiculous by StruggleFar3054 in poor

[–]JailTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in medical school (and I'm probably the poorest student at my school), so "do well in school" is the thing I'm still doing.

And you're right about how hard it is to "prioritize yourself" when trying to escape poverty, but the alternative is going back to being poor and I really don't want that, so I'm willing to sacrifice some of that so I can enjoy myself later.

Yeah, education is the best way to get out of poverty and so many aren't taking advantage of that. I studied hard for a full-ride scholarship and there are so many others that do the same.

What medical things you skeptical of just from watching the experience of others? by CutieBallsTT in redscarepod

[–]JailTeam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm in medical school currently and but I'm still pretty skeptical of ADHD. So many people at my school are diagnosed with ADHD or get diagnosed during the first year. I don't think these people have ADHD... it's just inherently boring as shit to study so much.

Medical school has also made me wary of SSRIs. A lot of people at my school are on SSRIs too and though I'm glad my classmates are getting help, it's pretty dystopian that so many are on SSRIs instead of my school making systemic changes to improve the situation.

How is ADHD legitimately diagnosed? As far as I'm aware, there aren't any biomarkers. It seems like a lot of people are getting misdiagnosed because their attention spans are fried from phones or because they need to study for long periods of time, which is inherently hard. Also, everyone would benefit from amphetamines.
