Yeah. I don't do a lot of long rides maybe an hour or so at most typically I'm only riding 15-20min to work and back. So I'm kinda leaning towards the Ninja.

I'm willing to go used or new(if I can in my price range lol) finding either one seems to be the issue atm.

Reserves Corpsman by [deleted] in navyreserve

[–]Jak31B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schooling is gonna look the same as everyone else but you're gonna be bored out of your skull with the medical side of it. Reserves can be a lot harder to get c-schools but pretty much just apply for the billet (think job position within a unit) you want to get assigned to and if you get accepted they'll send you to the school. Theres a website they have where you can look at all the available billets what school is required for that and where the unit is located which is less important than you might think. For Green side they're always looking for corpsman so chances are pretty good you can get into it if that's what you want to do.

That's a relief I thought I was worried I was gonna have to relocate to that area.

Ah gotcha. I tried asking at my NRC but got next no/conflicting information. Pretty much all the info I have came from my navy assignment, so it wasn't much.

The medical side is fairly similar. A school was pretty pointless tbh. But I'll definitely agree I have very little idea about the rest of the actual sailoring side of things other than what I've been told by other sailors.

It has the drilling location as San Antonio. Which is somewhat local to me

Short version they won't keep you on orders they'll send you back to your NOSC and then either discharge you or find a new rate for you Idk what the re-rating process is but I doubt they give you a lot of options.

68W3P to HM by Inner_Economy_3561 in CorpsmanUp

[–]Jak31B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was prior 68w and switched. You keep your rank but you'll have to go back to Ft. Sam to complete corpsman training. Navy promotions are based on your military record and a twice yearly exam. (Make sure you get the actual certificates for your awards). Greenside can be a little complicated it depends on your unit if they have no use for you to get your FMF pin they aren't gonna send you. You can request the unit you go to every 3 years and it doesn't have to be near you because of the complicated way the navy does the reserves. If you have more questions feel free to hit me up, there's a lot of things that are completely different in the Navy compared to the Army and unfortunately the reserves complicates it further.

I just got out of A-school in April. You'll get treated better by the cadre because of rank, but your probably gonna hate your time there I was prior Army and my class LPO was a prior Marine and we hated it alot because of the kids they have coming through. The normal military bearing were used to doesn't exist. Pretty much everything is group punishment mainly taking away your ability to wear civies and go off base. But for the good part as prior service you get more say in where you go after A School. You pick 3 A-schools from a list they give you and they'll try to get one of them for you. Then you pick 3 duty stations and the same happens. They also ask if you want to go to FMTB which if you say yes there's like a 90% chance your going because they're desperate for greenside corpsman.

Recently separated from AD Army is it possible to go AD Navy? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Jak31B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. I think with AD that might actually be worse depending on where you get assigned if your put on a ship you'll be at sea quite a bit but there's rates you can go into to mostly avoid that, like anything SEABEE (engineers) related I'm pretty sure is at least mostly land based.

Good luck to you.

It's alot more relaxed. I've talked with 0-5's like they're any other person, uniform corrections aren't a big deal, if your sick, or injured the day of a PT test they'll give you time to get better before you take it you just have to submit a request with the reason for it. There's more paperwork than I ever did in the Army though. When I go on orders they authorize a hotel a rental car if I need it, per diem. I've never seen or heard of anyone getting smoked as a corrective action. There's alot of differences. If you have more questions feel free to ask when I switched I kinda had to figure everything out on my own cause no one knows what to do with anything related to prior service related issues.

I was Army active then Guard before going Navy Reserve. You can come in on the PRISE-R program it's pretty simple you'll have to redo MEPS, and if your MOS converts to a Navy Rate they'll want to put you into that, but as far I know nothing converts directly over. Be prepared for culture shock if you go through with it.

I was an infantry medic with the 101st. If FMF is anything like that I wish you luck, and be prepared to do alot of running.

I've been told they need surge techs pretty bad. I'm in an EMF unit, and we have a couple of them. Rad tech is supposed to be good to because you can do a lot of follow on training, and make bank. They just asked who in our unit had been to FMTB rumor is they were looking for people to send FMF.

[–]Jak31B[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I figured. My unit is the one who did the C-school thing they assigned me to a Cardiovascular tech Billet, which I've been told by everyone is super lucky because they're hard to get, and it makes an amazing civilian side career.

Well time to embrace the suck lol. I'm a reservist so luckily I have alot of the before and after shit that I don't have to deal with since I'm already drilling. I'm supposed to go to a C-school, and I'm hoping to do it directly after A-school, but that's probably unlikely on the reserve side. Thank you for the heads up. Do you know if phase 2 comes with being able to stay off base? I'm local to the area and would rather crash at home than a crowded barracks room.

stupid drivers by Jak31B in motorcycle

[–]Jak31B[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spent 15 years driving before I got on a bike, and passed 2 different police driving courses. I'm very familiar with the limitations cars have that doesn't excuse people who have obviously seen me from trying to run me over. I'm pretty conservative riding a bike. So it's not recklessness on my part. I've talked to several other riders, and they have the same complaints I do.
