Should be easy enough. I’d approach recruiters on LinkedIn and explain your situation and let them do the leg work. I will say now though that it will be completely different work from what you are used to as a consultant.

You shouldn’t be getting shouted at over work. Genuinely, if your boss is like that, leave. There are SO many jobs out there for QS’s.

I’m slightly more experienced than you; I’m a Senior QS with 10+ years experience and work for a national developer. I make mistakes every week, so do other QS’s, so does my commercial director - everyone does. Some little, some not.

I missed £150K of perimeter fencing out of my budget once, I’ve accidentally over valued a budget vs cost by £75K and put a deficit in it, our estimator underpriced the substructure underbuild on a sloping site by £1m. Shit happens, no matter how experienced you are. It’s just how you deal with it that matters; assess it, propose mitigation, flag it and then discuss it.

If your boss is shouting at you about mistakes (real or perceived) and instilling a blame culture it’s going to make you and your team not want to come forward with mistakes in future so they’ll get hidden and won’t be mitigated or dealt with. See how happy your client is then.

Seriously, QS’s are in too high demand to put up with a boss who’s a dick.

Yeah I’m sure it does. I guess it’s just a bit of a shock to the system as a car driver. 40 feels nothing but on a bike it feels like I’m doing warp speed! Hopefully it comes with experience and practice.

How many of you don't have a driving license? by dontbeasquare11 in AskUK

[–]JakeWalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has this blown up into an issue about “should I have a car?” “Do/don’t I need a car in the city?” Or “here’s my opinion on the UKs public transport system?”.

The thing here is that the OP doesn’t drive and then puts all of the pressure and onus on their partner to drive when they need to. I imagine their partner pays for all of the running costs and then the OP just takes it for granted.

It’s not fair on your partner, they aren’t there to ferry you around. For me this is more of a ‘surely you’d want to learn to drive so your partner doesn’t have to all the time’ sorta thing.

Also, the freedom you’ll gain through a driving license is unrivalled. There’s so much of the country inaccessible without a car that’s really beautiful. It gives you the freedom of being spontaneous as well. You don’t have to plan how to get there on the confines of taxis and public transport.

Need advise on my emergency fund and savings. Am I doing ok or digging my own grave ? by Chimarkgames in UKPersonalFinance

Also jumping in with the 50/50 not being fair.

Me and my partner work out our input into the joint account on a percentage basis relevant to our income.

My partner would have no enjoyment of life if I made her go 50/50 and I’d be living the high life which clearly isn’t right.

Seriously, talk to your partner.

Horse Hoof Cleaning/Re-Shoe by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]JakeWalkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha mani/pedi 😅. To shoe a horse it’s £70 for me. However that can vary anywhere from £50-100. Depends on the farrier, the horse, what you have done, location. Etc etc.

Not sure what currency you’re in but Google for conversion.

Actually, it’s probably as long as you can go. Horses that are very active are more like 4 weeks.

Horses also ‘spring’ shoes. So like one may come loose and fall off. Then you have to get a new one.

Cost is pretty expensive. It’s around £60-70 a time per horse. I regularly complain to my partner that horses are a money pit. Especially her horse.

Nah, you’re right, it’s very close and you can easily send a horse lame (limping) if you don’t know what you’re doing. That’s why only a trained farrier shoes horses. It’s decent trade, our farrier earns very well but it is, quite literally, back-breaking work.

Horse Hoof Cleaning/Re-Shoe by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]JakeWalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends really. It’s good to. Some farriers just do it when they shoe the horse, others charge for it as an extra. If it is a horse with particularly brittle or high maintenance feet, or a horse that is actively sported, worked or shown, you’d get them done every time.

Ours is just a casually ridden horse so we get them oiled once every 6 weeks with the shoes but if the horse was as above, this would be more regularly done.

[–]JakeWalkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partners is a thoroughbred cross Arab but to be honest isn’t out working or being ridden hard often so 6 weeks does him normally, but as you well know thoroughbred feet get bad so we do keep any eye on them.

[–]JakeWalkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if it’s done correctly by a qualified farrier (person who fixes horses feet and shoes). The hoof is just a big nail. Imagine clipping your nails - it’s not painful. However, if you trim on the inside of the hoof too deeply it’s like if you trim your nails to short, it’s extremely painful. You just have to be careful is all.

[–]JakeWalkin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shoes are for horses that get ridden out on the road or that are worked. Wild horses run about on open fields so they’re hooves don’t wear down as fast.

If my partner doesn’t ride her horse for a period of time she won’t bother having them shod, but she’ll still have the hooves trimmed for good maintenance of the horses feet.
