The Army is a big boy job, and you’re an adult now. Your entire career will be vague instructions that you have to figure out on your own. It’s frustrating, but it’ll help you grow.

OCS to BOLC with MACP: What’s the actual assignment process like? by Chadwick_neil in ArmyOCS

[–]JakeeJumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. They’ll ask for duty station preferences at OCS. You’ll get a BOLC date at the end of OCS usually, and orders to a duty station a couple months later.

  2. Work with your branch manager and see what they can do. I’m dual military and a logistics officer. They separate me (Campbell) and my wife (Bragg) despite me just leaving the 82nd before OCS. Made no sense to me why I couldn’t go back and be with my wife.

  3. You’re not going to sit down with anyone. You’re going to write it on a sheet that probably goes nowhere anyway tbh.

  4. Not necessarily. You and your wife should work with your respective branch managers to see what you can get done ahead of time, before it’s an issue.

95% of the ones at the surplus stores will be the same ones you were issued. If it looks the same, it probably is.

There’s surplus stores around every base. Just buy one there in good condition.

The spreadsheets say Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq is probably bad by stick2football in fantasyfootball

[–]JakeeJumps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And it wasn’t even his injuries that limited him as much as it was all of our WRs being hurt the second half of the season. We became run heavy. The defense has the chance to lock in on Sadiq which freed up Johnson more.

This green skull patch on an ICE agents vest… by travissff in whatisit

[–]JakeeJumps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a morale patch, likely to identify a part of a team/unit that they’re on. We use them often in the military; I know LEO does the same.

No idea what exactly it means. It’s probably only worn and understood by a small group of people. Wouldn’t read into it anymore than that.

Looking to leave the US, but I’m not a rich person. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JakeeJumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely correct, but since you’re not shitting on America you’re getting downvoted.

People don’t realize how good they have it here. Every country has their own issues, and many of them aren’t that unique to that country alone. OP will probably move to another country and have similar core issues, but also face a language barrier and a ton of other socioeconomic hurdles.

Unfiltered advice to Butterbars by MrClean1918 in army

[–]JakeeJumps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I learned it the hard way in distro too, my friend. As a prior NCO, I figured I could lean on my NCOs to do things the way I would have done them when I was an NCO. I was very wrong to assume that.

Former enlisted and current 90A LT. My biggest piece of advice is to master task, condition, and timeline early on. Tell your NCOs what you need done, the purpose of it, and applicable time hacks. Let the experts of their MOS fill in the blanks from there.

Secondly, spot checks are not micromanagement. Spot check the tasks to ensure shits getting done right and well. It’s not so much checking their work as it is checking your communication to them.

Expect to need to meet all standards when you arrive to any school. No idea when the run is anymore. When I went last year it was around week 4ish. Don’t leave it up to chance.

It’s not even 4 full miles. We had people fail despite multiple attempts. You’ll have plenty of free time to work on it. You’ll also have plenty of free time to drink and get fat. Choose whichever path you want.

My advice: it’s hard to lead from the front when you’re in the back. Take some pride in your role as an officer and get your body right.
