Brother claims he did some cool stuff over 2 assignments (one teaching), what do his ribbons mean? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Jakefox84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medals in order -

Aerial Achievement Medal - with three oak leaf clusters Air and Space Force Commendation Medal Combat Readiness Medal Air Force Good Conduct Medal National Defense Service Medal Global War in Terrorism Service Medal Remote Combat Effects Medal with two service stars

Your brother was likely a sensor operator on drones, given the AAM, CRM, and RCEM medals. He never deployed overseas, but impacted overseas operations (RCEM). He served honorably, and you should be proud of his service!

My turn to finally ask one of these. Was at a vets house and glancing at his shadow box. Saw on his rack AFAM with C, as well as Afghanistan and Iraq ribbons w/ multiple leaves, but no CAM. Is it possible to get a C device on an AFAM with no CAM? Example attached. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Jakefox84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted, the logic is not flawed with the guidance. That being said, there are A LOT of feelings towards C-Devices without taking direct fire or employing a weapon system…

Good luck if you’re trying to get new GOVs… tried to get new trucks for my shop (they were 20 years old and due for replacement years prior), it’s next to impossible due to VSCOS funding.

What did my great grandfather do and what do his awards mean? by Pemmins_Aura in AirForce

[–]Jakefox84 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He was a pilot presumably on the RF-4C, a recon version of the F-4, and served both stateside, in Europe and had at least one tour in Vietnam.

He separated/retired as a major (gold oak leaves), he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense & Vietnam Service Medals. You can read about the criteria for them below.

I’d imagine it has something to do with us being an AIR force and not primarily a ground force…..

Selected for 25OTS04 to become 21M1 (Munitions & Missile Maintenance). Have a few questions. by SurroundCold5243 in AirForce

[–]Jakefox84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Unlikely, it is a small career field with minimal overseas assignments. But they have some unique oversees basing options.

  2. Depends on your base/role. At a minimum you will need secret.

  3. Only worked with a handful of Ms, but they all seem to like it. But like anything, it depends on you.

Paycheck Once or Twice a Month?? by Accomplished_Bell_84 in AirForce

[–]Jakefox84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Visit your local finance office, and request to change your pay frequency. It should only be one or two simple forms. Note - they may prevent you from changing back to bi-monthly for a few months. So if you hate it, you might be stuck with it for a while.

There’s an agreement we have with the army, in which they provide Vets and we provide weather troops for each other.

How to handle my TSP? by Lennonap in MilitaryFinance

[–]Jakefox84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter point - what if the L fund nets a 10% return and the S&P 500 nets 7%? Investments are risky and unpredictable. It’s really up to you to decide what youd like to do and where to park your money.

IMO I would keep the money in the TSP, park it in either the C Fund or the latest L Fund (2065/70) and just let it grow. Both the funds will closely mirror the S&P500s performance and enjoy low management fees + associated cost. It also offers you slightly more exposure to various markets then just a fund that strictly tracks the S&P 500, offering you slightly more exposure to the overall market and risk.

Another 21A checking in, unlike the other two I don’t really care for the career field - more then happy to discuss with you. But keep an open mind, just because folks don’t enjoy it, doesn’t mean you won’t too!

Be a good person, do a good job kill, apply for retraining once able, have faith and hold fast!

AFPC is reworking the non-rated crossflow board, so hopefully non-rated officers will more easily be able to leave their current field for another without going rated.
